Us Hudson-Odoi actually any good, or is it all hot air? Whenever ive seen him (admittedly only a couple of cameos), he looks like a headless chicken!
    Superb talent.

Named in the team of the tournament at the U17 Euro's 2 years ago, and played every game when we won the U17 World cup.

Let's not forget that for him to even be near the Chelsea first team squad when he only just turned 18 is a pretty good achievement given their record with young players. I do think the senior England call up is a bit too soon though.

Fair play, I'll trust your judgement Chris! Looking forward to seeing him get a few minutes under his belt, with a bit of luck.

Rashford out injured, though no doubt he'll make a full recovery for the next Man U game!

  • Disappointing to lose him but it makes Southgate's team selection easier. Kane up front, Sterling one side, Sancho the other. Hudson-Odoi as an impact sub late on.

Is Winks still not quite fit?

Still feel as though that Midfield has one too many Defensive Midfielders and not even clinical passers of the ball

Still have no idea how Delph gets picked ahead of other players like Winks

Winks probably isn't 100% fit, Delph had a great game vs Croatia last November.

Southgate trying to juggle success here with wanting a strong U21 side.

Lets leave aside the fact that Maguire shouldn't be in the side.

Flooding the squad with wingers/strikers that all play the same position while ignoring centre midfield + left back is a concern.

First senior call ups for Foden and Greenwood as well.

No Grealish which is a surprise

Don't know what Keane has done to deserve a place over Dunk or O'Connell.

Alexander-Arnold, Walker + Trippier but no left backs like Saka.

Grealish probably deserves a place over Ings (won't play) or Abraham (behind Kane, Rashford anyway).

Totally agree with your point on Ings. Yes he had a good season but he's never getting anywhere near a meaningful place in the England side. Should've got Grealish in.

Weird there is no left back.

Would have Tarkowski or Dunk over Mings and Keane.

Dont even get me started on Dier being in there again.....
  • No Grealish is odd - presume as a few like Jordan Henderson, Maddison etc are missing we're trying  a few new players out so it's the idea time to give Grealish a go too.

Don’t worry it’s only Iceland. As if we would lose to them..........
  • 3 right backs and no left backs is plain daft.

Especially when Saka is eligible for Nigeria too, should try to involve him so he sticks with England.

To be fair they are very different players. Phillips deserves his call-up basically because there isn't any other players in his role other than Dier and Henderson.

Grealish deserves a call-up but think Southgate has probably decided to choose Mount and Foden over him. Think there was enough room for him too as we did go a bit striker heavy but guess Southgate didn't want to leave out one of the superstars.
  • Am I out of touch or just getting old? Do others struggle to name the clubs these players play for? And, worse still, how many could recognise in an easy identity parade?

Henderson and Maddison are both injured.

Only Maguire - he was in one last week.

Rice plays his position too doesn't he?

It may just be me but i don't think the squad needs 3 defensive midfielders in it, especially when one of those positions could at least have been given to a left back.

I mean there are 4 defensive midfielders in that team

    Rice
    Ward Prowse
    Dier
    Phillips

Technically 5 if you include Harry Winks who can also play that role.

I can understand why people are surprised Phillips has been called up ahead of Grealish when Phillips hasnt really proved himself at the top level yet and and Grealish has.

But then again why is Dier in there again

Because Phillips is a very good player.

I'd have Phillips over Dier or Ward-Prowse any day.

Ward-Prowse is just a dead-ball specialist anyway. Nothing special.
