First off, GET IN NABY SARR!!!!!!! Great ball from Morgan. Sarr with a classy back post volley.
I think we've largely looked good without trying too hard. I've been impressed by all three of the kids in midfield. I really like the look of Maloney. He is such a classy little operator. He gives it, he gets it back, plays one and two touch, and keeps the ball moving. It's exactly what you want from a holding player.
Lapslie has shown bits of tidy skill. I'm still not 100% convinced by his technical ability. He shows moments of it but has others where he seems all shins. But playing in a deeper role he's looked good. And Morgan as the 10 looks tidy. Things haven't quite come off, though I think he had the ball in for the assist which was a good ball, but you can see there's a real player in there.
Marshall needs four touches too many. He waits far too long on crosses. And Reeco hasn't been great, the ball doesn't seem to stick with him.
Sarr has dealt with pretty much everything that's come at us. He's been very good in defense. Yao has had a couple dodgy moments but did settle. He wants the ball at his feet, and looks tidy on it. His biggest problem seems to be adjusting to the pace and strength of senior football. Dijksteel has looked alright, a little off the pace. I think a lot of it is probably down to still recovering from Pneumonia (and thus missing a fair amount of pre-season), which he had as recently as a month ago. I suspect his lack of aerial ability will probably keep him from being a center half in England, but I do hope we get to see him in midfield at some point.
Nothing Steer could do about the goal. Think it took two separate deflections. But he looks good with the ball at his feet and I think he will end the season as our Number 1.
Lastly, words for Igor and Reeves. Igor hasn't had a lot of service but he's had a couple moments where he's shown his quality. And Reeves, despite playing left back, as shown exactly the type of player we've been missing thus far this season. He's so good technically. On a couple of occasions he's just pinged 40 yarders on the volley. But then at other times he's helped build from the back, played 1-2s, gotten the ball in tight areas. It's been reminiscent of the run he had in the team when Bowyer first took charge and Reeves played deeper. He's very good when he can help start a move then have that little bit of quality to pick the vital pass in the final third. I'm looking forward to having him back.
And as I finished writing Soares scored a worldie.
