seeing a reference to champion in a book i was reading last night i started to try and recall which comics and magazines i used to read on a regular basis...because my father worked in the print i basically used to get them all, eagle, beano, dandy etc etc to the extent i've forgotten the names of most of them now...then along the way i used to buy all the american comics for a sixpence or a shilling a pop (i think) as i'd come out of the roxy at blackheath after saturday morning pictures (wish i'd kept those ones to sell now) progressing to the old commando books (found some of those knocking around the house recently) and then in 1968 the first issue of goal came out, the one with george best on the front and i started getting those on a regular basis (i think the first 100+ issues are still stored somewhere) and later shoot...

Saturday morning pictures at the Roxy - haven't thought about that for years - used to be a good laugh and we all had 3 or 4 birthdays a year in order to get a prize.
Beezer, Topper, Victor, Eagle, Tiger, Roy of the Rovers, Health & Efficiency......
LOL , Stone!
Nobody picked up on Health & Efficiency that I mentioned in my post. :-(
We were never short of comics in our house...
Later got into a lot of Marvel Comics - Dr Strange, Fantastic Four etc.
whilst not into the dc/marvel comics, i can't pass on this opportunity to shamelessly plug my mates shop that specialises in importing U.S. comics and collectable 'superhero' stuff.avalon comics
match and shoot, me to, my step dad used to buy them for me every week, was the highlight for sure. Never read any of the geek mags that you lot are saying, never read dandy or beano whatever they are called! used to have an ace escort magazine collection!!
Won a competition once in ROTR where i won a football kit of my choice for me and a years supply of washing powder for my mum. She was so proud!!

Talking of cartoons... not actually a cartoon but dont forget people Ledge Knows was male in the photo storys for Jackie magazine.
My mate Lee Smart was in jackie magazine. For his stag do in Vegas we got the photo story printed on T shirts.... very amusing.
"Look and Learn". Gosh I'd forgotten that. Used to get it by post every week.
Unfortunately I think I looked more than I learned.
