Two or three years ago virtually nobody cared about transgender issues but today it's the progressive's cause celebre. I'm genuinely curious what the next great crusade is going to be.

So the headline sounds ridiculous. When you’re born with a penis, of course you can’t have periods.
HOWEVER, within the trans movement... there are people born male who identify as female and more relevant to this story, people who were born female but identify as male.
The idea behind the teachings is to point out that trans boys can have periods because their physical bodies still follow female patterns. I suspect this an attempt to curb bullying and such when a kid has to use the boys room to change a tampon.
“Trans boys can have periods too” isn’t as shocking a headline though.

Whatever the reason - it’s a load of old bollocks / fanny *
If he wins, then it is a story. As he won't, it is a waste of time and just giving him attention! He will probably appear in a celebrity programme now! Breaking News! There are mad people in this world, and there have always been!
If you're 69, healthy, bright and ready to work hard but have no money or income you are in a much worse position than a 49 year old in the same position. You can be sacked or refused a job simply because you are 69.
I personally think this is as unfair and cruel as discrimination against any other section of society. Just saying!

Could you point me to the legislation that allows this?

It was scrapped in 2011.
I was being facetious - I'm well-versed in employment law, specifically the scapping of the default retiirement age and the provisions of The Equality Act 2010

I wasn't sure how long it takes these things to filter through up north!

Not that long - we've had electricity for a full two years now.

Ok I don't really know what I'm talking about!
But I would guess the 69 year old would come off worse in a competition with a pregnant lady for a permanent role in an organisation.
Does the pregnant lady even have to mention that she is pregnant? I think the sixty nine year old must "admit" to his age and I don't think he should have to!
Anyway I hope you can see my point even if I am talking bollocks!

A new job applicant wouldn't have to admit to his/her age and I would never advise putting date of birth on a CV/application form.
Of course there is still discrimination, but if a case is proven for unlawful discrimination then an Employment Tribunal will make an award.

While I don't put a date of birth on my applications, my CV is accurately dated and shows I graduated in 2015 after graduating from sixth form in 2012, which by convention would make me 21 in 2015 (therefore born in 1993/4), so surely this depends on line of work and that sort of thing?

Can you give another example to demonstrate that you're not sure what you're talking about?

Yes of course it can be roughly worked out with fully dated employment, but there is no need to put an explicit date of birth.
For some roles it may be appropriate to not date all employment, or when qualifications were obtained - it would be just as valid to put length of time in role/experience rather than start/finish.
65 is the new 55, plus the bank of Mum and Dad is under pressure, The state pension age will rise to 75 in next 30 years as the aging population carry on living in their Victor Meldrew world and refuse to budge.(west stand at the Valley)
Old age in some parts of the third world is 45, we have been spoilt and depending how much you abused your body when young can live a long and mediocre life.
Saw on the sex in the suburbs website that a new Monday afternoon club has starting up called "grab a great granny" I feel this may just reflect the improvement in modern drugs for older Ladies, bizarrely the average age of the men who attended was 35. The owners of the club put this down to old Men despite taking Viagra forgetting where they left their teeth and getting lost on the way.
genuinely don’t watch much tv, but just caught some of that ‘the making of me’ on channel 4 about transgender and following the lives of those that have chosen to identify as the opposite sex to which they were born. I’m very live and let live, but it makes my head spin. The saddest was seeing a chap’s wife watch her husband transition. She was there supporting him, but essentially she’s lost her husband. I can’t quite get my head around it. I guess he’s deeply unhappy as a guy, but now she’s likely to be upset and has had her whole life turned upside down. The dynamics at play are quite mental in some cases

The sad thing is that these people have to hide who they are and what they feel to a point that causes constant unhappiness at the less extreme end and suicidal thoughts at the other. Of course everybody who is close to them is affected. The least we can and probably also the most too, is try not to be judgemental and even be supportive.

I mean in this example, the wife was very supportive. That’s why I can’t quite get my head around it. On the hand, you’ve got someone deeply unhappy and as you say, at the wrong end of the spectrum could be suicidal. On the other, you’ve now got a wife who has essentially lost a husband (for want of a better term)

This feels a good place for this - man wants to sue parents as he didn’t give consent to be born

To work or not to work that is the question.

I know we shouldn't judge people by their appearance, but he doesn't really look like the publicity-seeking type. Does he?
It is much clearer now.
