Didn't think we'd win today, being without Taylor & Cullen.....But the lads battled well & stuck with it even during the 2nd half when we were as bad as tues (1st half)
However......which one if the coaching team thinks Ajose is our best option for a dead ball specialist ?? His corners got worse & worse and his free kicks were just as bad. All in all I thought he had a poor game...but he wasn't the only one.
Lapslie. Sorry.....but just not a L1 player. Totally inconspicuous today & whereas at the start of the season he was everywhere & biting into tackles, today he was slow & innefectual. As for that miss....that's the 3rd time this season he's been 10 yards out & not scored. Not good enough imo.
With Ajose & Lapslie today it felt like we were playing with 9 men. Good job Taylor is back on Tues & hopefully soon Clarke & Reeves too.
Onto Burton on Tues night. Shame it wasn't a sat as we'd had gone. Will just watch Jules & the team on Sky.
Bit of a bummer that. We would have almost sold out on a Saturday. New ground syndrome. I am going. But it is what it is.
We still look like a team that should be ripping the arse out of other teams but are waiting for the final instructions to come through the post...the 8-0 and 5-0 results when they didn’t really need to happen are a foretaste of what is to come...I have a sneaky feeling it well may actually be Pompey or Sunderland that might just be the unlucky victims for when it all comes together
Very bold statement given that we are approaching the half way point of the season and both of those sides have only lost once.
From the Darrell Clarke interview. He has no doubt about our play off credentials ... which is nice
Darrell, 3-1 doesn’t really tell the whole story today, does it?
I disagree. I don’t think we were good enough, I thought we were orchestrators of our own downfall.
The last thing I wrote on the board was be wary of their counter-attacks from set plays. The ball gets blasted right down the pitch and they go and score a goal, not acceptable ... When the ball is in the goalie’s hands, should the ball end up in the back of the net within five, six seconds, when I’ve told my players about being wary of the counter-attack?
You’re a manager who takes risks, no regrets for pushing Jack Bonham up at the end?
You’re 2-1 down. For me it’s worth a gamble, isn’t it?
It cost us the third goal, obviously, but I wanted to get back into the game. Charlton’s obviously a tough place to come, they move the ball well, they’re going to be in the top six without a shadow of a doubt.
Great game great spirit great result, as a side note can we ditch the rangers shit in north upper
Yes, yes, yes and what? I must have been in the toilet.
About 30 people few youngters and some fat bloke singing the 50 pence song, and then as others didn’t join in he started what are you lot all fucking Irish, were Charlton not jocks so slow down.

I must have missed it but i totally agree, no place for it at ours.
Just like to give a shout for Lyle Taylor’s guest commentator contribution on Valley Pass yesterday, he slotted in with consummate ease. A real natural raconteur who fitted in perfectly.....though he (as indeed did all three of them) somewhat laboured the point re the poor refereeing on offer.

That first answered question is why I feel for Managers when they're sacked... He's pointed something out prior to the game to his players but they dont have the sense to listen to something so basic... end of the day they'll get off from any overall criticsm
As for calling up the Goalkeeper I thought it was a sensible decision... Rarely do you see an opposition having an open net like what Karlan had, and is no secret we've conceded so many late on, not to mention; Clarke would have heard the anxiety coming from the fans and will be aware of that getting to our players

I would have done the same in his place, and would hope Bowyer like wise. You might get a point from 2-2, and at that point in the game you might as well lose 3-1 or 2-1 as its still 0 points

That’s probably why they are there for the taking, they clearly haven’t been challenged enough yet, either by another team or by deficiencies to their own squad as injuries and bookings set in. A charlton side that could be close to firing on on cylinders with two of the leagues top scorers starting to get into their stride and our central defence with its first choice duo will leave them looking like rabbits in headlights.

No problem with the keeper coming up for the corner, but after the initial cross came to nothing, he should have gone back. No point having a keeper there when a team is trying to score from open play!
I am more comfortable when we are playing the higher placed sides. We usually find something extra and up our game to get a result. Here's hoping we can do this against both Portsmouth and Sunderland. Anyone else noticed that we could be in the playoff final this year with Sunderland?

Could be...but I'd say it's likelier that (at least!) one of us and them will make the automatic spots

Those teams tend to attack more and play a more open game, which usually suits us.
The game has been adequately summarised by others.
The base of diamond position is a conundrum. Bielik is a fine centre-back but yesterday showed insufficient energy to be effective in midfield (I don't buy that a defensive midfielder just hovers around outside his penalty area). He enjoyed a lot of space early on but when Rovers eventually closed him he struggled. He did win plenty of headers but currently it doesn't look like he's got the natural fitness to get round the park (after all, he's an injury-prone centre-back).
That said, Bielik may well be our best solution in the absence of Cullen and Pratley. He's young and very inexperienced and may well develop with each match. As one of the best players, it's very tempting to get him into the team. A lot of things can change and perhaps the return of Page might see us go to 3-5-2. Or maybe Reeves or Clarke will be played at the base of the diamond. It will be interesting to see if we find a decent solution in the next month or so.
Strange how we all ,see it differently. Bar one inappropriate turn, I thought Bielek was one of the few class acts on display
He did a few classy things (he's a classy footballer) but the position requires a lot of dirty work too. Cullen for example, gets around the park, tackling, heading, harrying and then once the battle has tipped in his favour, gets his passing going. It may come for Bielik as he gets games in the position and hopefully builds up his stamina.

Yes. Whoever thought it was a good idea to sing a Shakin' Stevens song, have a rethink. We're not fookin Palace.

We worked hard but were very scrappy - midfield is really not there.
Credit to Steer for an excellent display.
We really missed Lyle up front.

Other sides will defend and try and frustrate us.
