Wow. That's shocked me. He came and spoke at our (cycling) club Christmas Dinner in 1987 or so. He was active at a time long before it was feasible that an British rider could ever win the Tour. R.I.P.
I enjoyed, for many years, his entertaining Tour de France commentaries. I liked his comments about chateaus, castles, churches, etc. A sound of summer that I will not forget.
Sad day for Paul's family and loved ones and a sad day for cycling. As others have said above he was the master when it came to commentating on the big tours and those trying to fill his boots still have a long way to go.
RIP Paul, take your place in the peloton in the sky.

Still see it as a traversty that they were gotten rid of as despite liking Miller and Boulting they're just not the same!!
