i remember when we had sheffield united in the cup and they were expecting a steel city derby, probably the heaviest policed game i've seen metal fences etc, i remember one of the coppers saying that 3 police forces were assisting that day and as it was a replay the arrangements had already been made.

Surely the Hillsborough tragedy wouldn’t influence policing strategy at Hillsborough?

It’s a tough one, is behaviour really much better on weekdays?

could be .. though less time for fans to get boozed up and aggressive after work and possibly less strain on Police resources if other games are being played in Yorkshire, at e.g. Leeds, Rotherham, Huddersfield .. different Police forces but as @palarsehater says, the Yorkie cops all muck in for the big and dodgy occasions

cant see either sheffield club going up or down for a while so the more they play i actually think there is less trouble, as not such a big occasion.

SYP are utter tits. Look at the segregation they insist on. They block every 5th row at Bramal Lane when Wednesday play there, completely pointless and doesn't happen anywhere else.

The Disaster definitely is not something the police just forgot about and I'd bet they use it as an example of "Worst case scenario" when briefing their officers.

I'd imagine that Hillsborough now being an all seater would lessen the chance of anything like that happening again, unless of course they put up those temporary fences for crowd control which could be a huge hazard.

Safer to have more police there than to put up more barriers as a replacement for police

How is playing a derby match on a weekday when a lot of fans would probably take a half day to go on the piss better than having it at 12.30 on a weekend?

Not being sarcastic at all. The ground has changed in configuration significantly since 1989 (specifically with the introduction of all seating) and the threats are very different too (in 1989 the principal cause, alongside police incompetence was overcrowding in parts of the stand which is very unlikely these days).

Frankly it would be mental for the bill to base their policing strategy on what they should have done in 1989 rather than what needs to be done to ensure safety in 2018.
