Unbeaten in 9, but only 3 wins. That's not promotion form, some fans are starting to get restive...
15 points from 9 games ....... that's nevertheless a tidy return from a team out of form. Remember the old adage about successful teams playing poorly but still picking up points?
Don't underestimate them. They are not getting beaten; Confidence and morale will still be high. It's a sound platform to build on should they finish the season on a winning run.
Anyway, Bowyer talks about his 9 game blocks and target of 17 points. By that reckoning, he will think Sunderland are only 2 points behind target - and won't underestimate them.
Why will their confidence be high when they keep drawing all those games ? Every time we draw it feels like we’ve lost.
They're not losing games though ...... they've won 3 of them, and the ones they've drawn, they'll feel they should have won most of those - and will look at situations like Grigg rounding the keeper and missing an open goal, feeling next time they'll score it.
Confidence drops when you're truly struggling, getting beaten every week and never look like getting anything out of a game: That's not Sunderland right now.
They are a big club, get big crowds and will have big expectations. Those draws will be killing them at the moment and they’ll start to worry about the play offs when 3 of the other 4 teams from places 2 to 6 are also ex-PL clubs and will match any edge Sunderland might have felt they had as a big club over any of those 3 play off matches.
The draws may be killing the crowd with their huge expectations.
But the team haven't really shown any consistantly poor performances ..;; except they lost their main goalscorer and haven't been converting chances. There's a huge weight of expectation on the shoulders of their expensive new striker. But he's experienced and proven at this level, and once he gets off the mark he'll convert sufficient chances.
The huge crowd can be their 12th man ...... but if they turn on their own team, they could destroy them. Their choice.

.
The run has gone on for too long not to affect them. And not just for 9 games - 5 League wins from the last 14 games and 23 points out of 42 have seen them go from right in the mix for automatic promotion to having to play catch up.
Their issue is that they haven't scored more than a single goal in the League for over two months. Sunderland were wholly reliant on Maja for their goals - 16 this season and 4 of the 9 in their last 9 matches - and there is no guarantee that his replacement, Grigg, will hit the ground running.
anyone watching who's not in the know would assume that Accrington is the team in the promotion chase .. tomorrow another important game so far as we're concerned (other than our own game) .. Pompey @ Southend .. on the telly at midday
now Accy up 2-0 .. the Black Cats are a bunch of mangy old pussies
Breaking the run of 9 binary scores!
It will be interesting to see the crowd reaction if Sunderland lose. And lets face it, Sunderland losing to Accrington Stanley is the headline the media have been longing for!
Good to see Accrington trying to play Football this time instead of being dirty like the tactics they used against us; certainly dont remember them being this open @ the Valley
As said before though, cant think of many occasions when teams have given us that much space in the box!!... Is that credit to our attacking attitude or is it a sign we cant find the killer passes?
Sunderland are so much better playing it along the deck rather than pumping balls up to the (all together now) useless Wyke .. this is a very decent game so far

Grigg has missed a couple of chances.
Another 1.1 beckons
We have just got to keep plugging away (11 wins out of 14 said Lord Bowyer) and hope that one of Luton or Barnsley go on a bad run at some point.
Also this isnt technically a game in hand for them as we play tomorrow

Just switched over to the game & guess who scores !

Impressed with Paul Smyth

Didnt agree seeing he was the one who gave away the penalty
