Charlton Athletic v Burton Albion
Tuesday 12th March 2019 … 7:45pm Kick-Off
Referee: Thomas Bramall
Introduction
Four points from two games; that’s the stark reality of what Charlton have achieved in their last two games, both coming against Play-Off rivals leaving some quarters of the Valley looking up potential dates in May for an extension to our football season… Despite the optimism we’re not there until it’s mathematically confirmed, a season is often described as a marathon, not a sprint, yet the finishing line is in sight. All that’s required is for Lee Bowyer and his men to keep up the steady pace (starting tomorrow evening against Burton Albion), and ensuring they’re not left in the dust by someone making a late charge
The Opposition
Name: Burton Albion | Manager: Nigel Clough
Ground: Pirelli Stadium
There is a small rumour that tomorrow’s match might not even go ahead… When Burton Albion travel down from Derbyshire tomorrow it’ll be with a police escort looking for retribution and justice!! – Take a look at any team looking to achieve promotion and there will be games looked back upon when you question; “How did we win that!!”
For the Addicks, the biggest of those was at the Pirelli in November; it was our first trip to Burton for a League game and despite having a poor season showed why they were a Championship club this time last season, a late Jason Pearce header ensuring that a hugely unlikely three points would be returning to South East London!!
Recovering from relegation though is never easy for any side and for Burton it’s been no different, a side who could potentially (I stress that word) reach the Play-Offs yet would need their sprint to start now, mid-table looks to beckon for the Brewers. Yet that doesn’t mean tomorrow will be a forgone conclusion, the match at the Pirelli proved that Burton are no pushovers and could challenge next season… Three points will certainly be difficult to achieve what with Manchester City being the only side to defeat a travelling Burton Albion since before Christmas!!
Charlton Team News
If there was one thing to enjoy about our victory on Saturday then it was the fact that Lee Bowyer could finally field a full strength midfield for one of the first teams this season – Of course in classic Charlton fashion it could well be the last time it happens; both Jonny Williams and Krystian Bielik would be forced off against Portsmouth with Bowyer confirming that the two key players could be doubts for the last midweek game at the Valley this regular season.
So its in the midfield that we must debate who those replacements will be… Its not as though we don’t have options and the first of those I’d make a case for is Tariqe Fosu, like most this season I’ve been disappointed with his form but his cameos in the last two weeks have hinted that the Tariqe of old is on the way back and could be a good alternate at the top of the diamond… Should both be absent then the other replacement will surely be Ben Reeves who like Fosu would make an impact from the bench on Saturday and so deserves a chance to showcase what he can do from the off

The reality of being in the 3rd tier against a minnow on a windy fresh Tuesday night.
No Williams or Bielik, I said we would get 4 points from Pompey + Burton, so it must be a draw.
I would play Parker instead of Taylor to protect the card ban - with Lyle on the bench if he's needed late on.
2-0 to The Addicks.
They also have some decent away results in the bag this season.
It's gonna be tricky.
Addicks manager Lee Bowyer said: “Jonny and Krystian are going for scans.
“e’re a little bit hopeful that Krystian’s is not too bad but he won’t be involved tomorrow, we don’t think. Jonny is maybe two to three weeks, so he is worse than Krystian.
“With Krystian being suspended, it was the first time we had got that midfield four together. Then to lose two of them, it’s difficult.”

Of course we shouldn't be worried about them until the Play-Offs themselves but they face Doncaster tomorrow
Home win sees them go joint points with Donny!!
I think this will be a tough one. We don't really score enough, so I can us having to work hard to break them down, hopefully getting through once and then having to survive an onslaught at the end. If Bauer and Sarr play anything like they did against Pompey we should be able to hold them off. Fingers crossed we get an early goal, hit them on the break after that and see out the game comfortably.
1-1
Taylor among the goals to show he is back to his best.
Also Pompy to drop points thus increasing our chance of getting 4th spot.
If he travels with the under 23 then he wont, but if he hasnt travelled with under 23s I fully expect him to be on bench tomorrow
Cloughie shouldnt bother too much and accept the facts and just send the reserve team.
I'm sure Charlton will show mercy with just a 3-0
Phillips
Solly, Bauer, Sarr, Purrington
Pratley
Cullen, Aribo
Fosu
Taylor, Parker
1-0 Fosu.
Taylor doesn't get booked.
Lapslie MOM
NIGEL Clough will have a full squad to choose from as the Brewers travel to Charlton tomorrow (kick off 7.45pm).
The Brewers recorded an impressive 2-1 win at Coventry on Friday night and now face an equally tough trip to promotion-chasing Charlton.
But Clough’s men are confident and came away from the Rocoh Arena without picking up any injuries.
The manager said: “I think everyone is ready to go again. I was speaking to Nick Fenton (Physio) and I don’t think he has ever known getting to the second week in March and having a squad where everyone is fully fit.”

Be the complete bloody reverse most weeks for us
Any win will do, but I see a draw or worse.
I'd be a lot happier if Bielik and Johnny (Glass) Williams were fit as they complement each other nicely and along with Cullen and Aribo constitute a quality midfield .. alas they won't be there and this concerns me. Fosu and Reeves did OK on Saturday though so we have decent personnel in reserve
I'd keep Dijk at right back, no point in recalling Solly for the sake of it unless Bowyer picks Dijk in midfield and that is unlikely
In a TV interview after the Pompey game, Taylor hinted at a liking for how he and Vetokele are progressing .. who are we to argue.
Defence is going well … BUT we just MUST keep the pressure on for the full 90 and not lie back contented after 80 minutes as we have in the past two games. This won't be easy but we're on a roll and will win
