Fosu-Henry: 6. Struggled to free himself from some close marking

If you walk around at half a mile an hour it's not difficult to be closely marked

  • Phillips: 6 Have to deduct a point for his poor kicking tonight although conditions were difficult in fairness

    Solly: 7 Mr Consistent

    Bauer: 7 Solid

Sarr: 7 Typical Nabby. the odd heart in mouth moment when he elaborates in our penalty area but overall decent.

Purrington: 7 One error  but otherwise very reliable. He is an increasingly important part of what is becoming an effective back 4 at this level.

Cullen: 8 Man of the match by a mile. Very effective at the base of the diamond but popped up elsewhere too. The one player who didn't look leggy.

Reeves: 7 Gets an extra point for that excellent goal.

Aribo: 6 Not the usual Joe but I gather he's unwell which explains it.

Fosu-Henry: 6 Seems to lack something. A shadow of what we know he can be.

Taylor: 7.5 A goal and an assist yet not quite good enough for MOM today.

Parker: 6 Anonymous. He made his runs and occupied defenders and did ok defensively but offered nothing on the ball

Referee: 5 Not impressed. Some strange decisions which fortunately had no impact on the result.

  • Phillips: 6 No saves to make but distribution pretty poor
Solly: 5.5 Looked off the pace early on and only got marginally better as the game went on
Bauer: 7.5 Very solid game, and a game changing early block
Sarr: 6 Plenty of good play in between the poor mistakes
Purrington: 5.5 Still not convinced by him; his positioning is OK but he doesn't really do anything
Cullen: 8.5 (MoM) Fantastic all round game
Reeves: 6.5 Good goal and always involved
    Aribo: 6 Tired or injured?
Fosu-Henry: 6 Hit the bar and lost the ball lots of times - typical Fossy
Taylor: 6.5 Some good play and din't get booked importantly
Parker: 5.5 Tried hard but failed to hold the ball second half
Referee: 7 I thought he did OK but was let down by atrocious linesmen

Phillips: 7 kicking still needs work
Solly: 7.5 very good from Sols
Bauer: 8 really strong performance from BFG
Sarr: 7.5 some excellent passing second half
Purrington: 6.5 solid enough but we do miss Page
Cullen: 9 outstanding, was everywhere. Made us tick
Reeves: 8.5 what a header that was by the way
Aribo: 7.5 still a good performance but you can see he wasn’t well
Fosu-Henry: 6 really getting frustrated by T now, he just looks so laboured, first touch isn’t as sharp as last season, real shame
Taylor: 8.5 scored and set up Reeves goal with a wonderful cross, put in a real shift
Parker: 6.5 not as bad as people are making out. He has almost the impossible task because people are going to be comparing him to Grant and that’s not fair, he isn’t the same player, nor with the same quality/qualities

Referee: 5 some bewildering decisions but his assistant at East Stand side, wow he was hilarious making up new laws of the game as he went along

  • Phillips: 6
    Solly: 6
    Bauer: 7
    Sarr: 7
    Purrington: 7
Cullen: 10 The only one to carry on from where he left off Saturday
Reeves: 8 Not been a fan, but he was very good. Great goal.
    Aribo: 7
Fosu-Henry: 5 Looked lost in the false no 10 slot. Lazy.
Taylor: 7 Now that yellow is off his back! Two in two and counting.
Parker: 6 does not look like a CF. Worked hard though
Referee: 8 got most things right and did not book Taylor. Not helped by a poor linesman.

  • Phillips: 6 maybe a bit harsh but an entire mark taken off for his kicking, which is bloody awful
Solly: 6 Dijksteel was better on Saturday
Bauer: 6.5 did ok, not a lot he could do about the handball
Sarr: 7 couple of wayward passes but his 1v1 defending is outstanding
Purrington: 7 gave us an outlet on the left in the first half, second half was isolated but still did ok
Cullen: 7.5 was everywhere breaking things up
Reeves: 7 faded second half and didn't support Purrington, but a fabulous header gets him an extra point
Aribo: 6.5 an 8 for the first half, a 5 for the second, it's like he didn't come out for the second half at all
Fosu-Henry: 5.5 the weak link tonight, once he's 30 yards from goal he gets tunnel vision and it's so frustrating to watch
Taylor: 6.5 a quiet game by his standards (trying so hard not to get booked)
Parker: 6.5 made some great runs in behind stretching their defence
Referee: 6.5 gave a lot to them in the second half, extra point for laughing at his own lino at halftime

    Should have gone to specsavers.
  • Phillips: 6 wayward kicking
Solly: 6.5 worried me on occasions has lost a yard of pace.
    Bauer: 7.5 great game
Sarr: 7 dumped on his derrier a couple of times
Purrington: 7 best game usually a 6 every game
    Cullen: 9 wow mom
Reeves: 8 one of his best
    Aribo: 6.5 quiet
    Fosu-Henry: 7 lively
    Taylor: 7.5 busy
Parker: 7 good touch decent in the air. Good movement
Referee: 7.5 half point less for lino
  • Phillips: 7 - Made the save when he had to.
Solly: 7 - Made up for a sluggish first half with a strong 2nd. Several key interceptions.
Bauer: 7 - Not as dominant as Saturday but stayed tight against their big forward.
Sarr: 7 - Ok, a few passes were off and he got caught on the ball but the way we play means this will happen occasionally. Still made plenty of passes and stayed strong in a physical tussle.
    Purrington: 6.5 - Defended well.
Cullen: 8 - Never stopped and picked up so many 2nd balls or won tackles himself. Tremendous performance given his efforts on Saturday.
Reeves: 7 - Lovely header for his goal. Did his bit closing down and worked hard.
Aribo: 6 - Looked a bit burnt out from Saturday (not surprising) and is possibly carrying a knock.
Fosu-Henry: 5.5 - Started well then faded. The odd good bit but the more the game wore on, I thought he actually started to look disinterested. I didn't like the way he let their centre back ghost through a couple of times 1st half.
Taylor: 7 - Great turn for the penalty and started very brightly with a lovely flicked lay off. Great cross for Reeves after the move had looked like it had ground to a halt. Looks to be getting back to his best. Was off-side too much (took too long to come back).
Parker: 5 - Heavy touch and not suited to the passing game. helped the defence late on and looked slightly better playing deeper on the half-turn.
Referee: 7 Seemed to have everything under control.

  • Phillips: - 6.5 Dominant in the air, but very little to do. I refuse to mark a keeper down for his kicking. Dean Kiely, anyone?

Solly: - 6 Steady performance. I don't think Sols likes the diamond. Doesn't get forward as well as he used to, but solid in defence.

Bauer: - 7 Unlucky, I thought, with the penalty, as he was quite close to the player that hit the shot. Won his headers, and a willingness to run into space in front of him. Mr. Reliable.

Sarr: - 7.5 I have always liked Nobby. He is still young for a centre back. He is better with his feet than Bauer, and has a bit more pace.

Purrington: - 6 See comments about Solly. Dependable defensively, but offers little going forward. A step down from Page, IMO, but is, at least, fit.

Cullen: - 9 MOTM Hardly put a foot wrong. Can't remember a single misplaced pass. Won countless tackles. Tremendous energy. One thing I really like about him, is he never walks anywhere, always running. Best player on the pitch by a country mile. I can't believe he doesn't get a run out at West Ham.

Reeves: - 7 Decent. More disciplined than I remember, and did the dirty defensive work well. Scored a cracking goal, too.

Aribo: - 5.5 Nothing more than average. Seemed to be treading water, explained by him being ill.

Fosu-Henry: - 5.5 Again, bang average. Where is the player of last year? The most obvious change from last season? Last season, if the ball went to him, he would kill the ball dead. This season, the ball bounces about 5 yards away...

Taylor: - 7 Looked a bit leggy after his herculean efforts on Saturday, but still a handful. Runs channels intelligently. Won the penalty, and took a decent pen too.

Parker: - 7 I actually quite like him. Was strong in possession, and worked back defensively very well. "Buys" a foul quite cleverly. If he was to play consistently with Lyle, and build a decent understanding, could be very useful in the season run-in.

  • At the Valley or from a live stream your marks please:

Phillips: 7 - He's a goalkeeper, his job is to defend our goal, that's how I'll judge him. Seemed to command his box well, wasn't really troubled throughout, only beaten by the lottery of a penalty. Yes, his kicking can be a bit crap at times but sometimes you have to wonder why the ball's being played back to him from the half-way line?
    Solly: 6.5 - OK
BeckenBauer: 7 - Solid from the BFG, shame about conceding the pen
HRS BeckenSarr: 7 - Sarr being Sarr
Purrington: 6 - OK without being spectacular. His main attribute seems to be that he's a round peg in a round hole; him being in the side allows the rest of the defensive personnel to be in their natural positions
Cullen: 8.5 - MoTM Ran the show again
Reeves: 7 - Did well, some good runs and crosses, cracking diving header for the winner
Aribo: 6 - Tried hard but not reaching the same standard as Saturday
    Fosu-Henry: 6 - Hmmm ....
Taylor: 6.5 - Yes, he won the penalty. Yes, he scored the penalty. Yes, he provided a ripper of a cross for the Forehead to score. And yes, he did a lot of good work around the ground. BUT ... learn the bloody offside law! If you come from an offside position it doesn't matter where you actually pick up the ball, you'll still get flagged and there's no point arguing the toss with the officials because all that'll lead to is a yellow card and less sympathy from the officials on the borderline challenges you often receive.
    Parker: 6 - Did a job
Referee: 7 - A bit fussy at times with the placement of free kicks but generally OK, certainly better than most we've seen at The Valley in recent years. The only quibble I have with the offsides from the East Stand lino are actually about a couple of Burton moves where I thought the attacker was offside but was waved onside.

  • Phillips: 6  OK
    Solly: 5 not his best
    Bauer: 7 Solid
Sarr: 8 Solid, does everything to move us up the picth
    Purrington: 4 - Woeful
Cullen: 9 MOTM - ABSOLUTE CLASS FOR 90 MINS.
    Reeves: 8 Decent
    Aribo: 5 Carrying a knock?
    Fosu-Henry: 7 Worked very hard
Taylor: 8 Done the business again
    Parker: 5

Referee: 3 Offside in your own half?
  • Phillips: 7 didnt have anything to do but kicking still a worry
Solly: 6 not one of his best nights kept giving the ball away
Bauer: 7.5 Solid again tonight and his partnership with Sarr is good
Sarr: 7 few silly things but nothing costs us generally solid
Purrington: 6.5 better going forward tonight but still a weak link
Cullen: 8 excellent tonight both in defence and was one of the few that did not keep giving the ball away
Reeves: 7.5 I think Reeves is a very underrated player that gives us something different good game tonight
Aribo: 6 was not at the races tonight and last night suspected there was maybe a little niggle there or he was unwell
Fosu-Henry: 6 did not take his chance tonight and offered very little apart from hitting the bar
Taylor: 7.5 works too hard in the wrong places sometimes but you feel he is making up for other people. Won penalty score penalty and assisted for Reeves job done what we have come to expected from Lyle Taylor baby
Parker: 6 I was asking for him to play last night I am asking he does not play Saturday offered nothing apart from 'winning' a few free kicks late on
Referee: 5 back to the normal league one dross have included assistants in marking
  • Phillips: 6- one good save but poor distribution
Solly: 6- mainly ok, one or two bad moments
Bauer: 7.5- good, solid display other than handball for penalty
Sarr: 7- could have easily conceded after 10 seconds due to his error, but mainly good from there
Purrington: 4- so dodgy, gave away a needless corner and gave away a chance they nearly scored from
    Cullen: 9- excellent
Reeves: 8- good runs and a great header for goal
    Aribo: 5- pretty anonymous
    Fosu-Henry: 5- didn't offer much
Taylor: 8.5- great penalty and great cross for the winner
Parker: 5- really didn't take his chance well, pretty useless
Referee: 5- all three officials seemed pretty clueless a lot of the time

Sorry, but that is not right. The offside Law was change in 2016 and the free kick is taken where the offence took place. Taylor was only considered to be offside when he played the ball so that is where the free kick should be taken, even if that is in your own half. FIFA made the change to align it with all other free kicks in that regard.

But when he and Parker were offside in their half going forward, the free-kick was taken from where they were when originally offside, not where they touched the ball.  So is it now from the farthest forward of the two so as not to penalise the defending team?
