Betdaq to end shirt sponsorship

That means LDT will need to find both a new shirt sponsor and a new catering company.

Or just sell the club.

Suspect it will be an overseas betting company or a contra deal with an existing supplier.

  • I know nothing about this kind of stuff, but isn't the future to be sponsored by somebody or something that an old git like me has never heard of, but is massive online?
  • Maybe a global microelectronics company such as Melexis will sponsor the shirts.
  • About time.
  • If all gambling related companies ended shirt sponsorship, that would affect loads of clubs
  • The one good thing about Betdaq is the font looks decent on the shirt, some sponsors logos are awful. Still, I think it's a good thing to get away from betting companies.

    But help society in general.
I'm amazed that this comes from the booky but all betting advertising should be banned. Everywhere.

I wasn't defending the gambling industry, more pointing out that it'll have a big effect on football in general. Even the EFL is sponsored by Sky bet!

I wasn't getting at you. Your comment is true.
I was just voicing my distaste for ads for gambling.
  • Does anyone even bother to pay attention to shirt sponsorship?

I can honestly say from personal experience i've not once thought that i must get a Betdaq account, any more than i thought i'd rush out and buy a Viglen computer or get a spanish property from Llanera.
Are you saying you don't have a wardrobe full of Carbrini sportswear?
  • I still don't really know what betdaq is.
  • How many companies that have sponsored our shirts still exist?

It's not so much the buying of a shirt sponsor product or even the boycotting of products sponsoring rival teams. It's more to do with the wider social issue of in your face advertising for gambling firms and the ease at which it is to gamble. Watching Leicester v Arsenal at half time there were at least 2 TV adverts from gambling firms probably more if I was paying attention. Then on the electric sponsorship boards at Leicester they're already showing other gambling firms during the game. How did it become so easy to gamble? Gone are the days you could only do so in the bookies which meant you had to go out of your way to do so. My issue is more to do with how easy previous and current governments have allowed this happen.

For those who have a problem gambling it must be almost the equivalent of someone cracking open a beer under the nose of an alcoholic every 15 minutes.

I realize i'm going off track but I feel the issue is wider than just shirt sponsorship it's a social issue and any step taken to help remove such visuals is a good one as far as i'm concerned.

That’s not really how it works. If you decide to get an account, you’re more likely to select a brand that you have advanced awareness of. You’re inclined to trust something that your brain has known about for a while. Sponsorship is about brand awareness. We all like to think we’re above being played like that, but we’re not!

I really liked it when we were sponsored by Greenwich University.
  • Roland will ask the EFL to be the club's shirt sponsor.
I hear the EFL countered they would sponsor for £1.
  • The advertising of book makers etc was deregulated in 2007, 4 years after tabacco advertising was band.  Is it a coincidence or was it done to make help make up the shortfall in sports sponsorship?

Everything used to be the Benson and hedges this or the Marlborough that, now almost all sports have a heavy betting sponsorship.  With either I don't have a problem with brand awareness adverts, like naming rights or shirt sponsorship, I do have a problem with Rey coming on my TV every five minutes, I would also have an issue with some popping up and telling me to have a cheeky Benson.

A pitch side bill board has never made me want a fag, a bet or anything else.  It would possibly how ever influence my choice of brand.
  • I always the Carbrini was a drink.

I always boycotted TDK tapes and Virgin airlines, mind.
It pains me going into Rymans, as Theo Paphitis will always be tarred by his former role at Millwall!
  • I’m sure we’re all hoping for a Charlton v Sunderland play off final as a fitting send off to the Betdaq shirts.
