If we let in a goal at any time in the next 8 games he should be sacked.
If the so called goal keeping coach isn't interested in keeping clean sheets and is only here for a wage, he shouldn't be here and this joke of a SMT need to do one.
Shouldn't be wasting his time improving players, it's clean sheets or bust.
There's definitely been something wrong in that department since Andy Marshall left in the summer of 2021.
Agreed. I watched shimmel in the pre match warm up’s. His philosophy seemed to be to smash the ball as hard as he could at the GK’s face from 6 yards, and then smash the ball as hard as he could in to the north upper from any further out.
And what exactly is Appleton’s ‘philosophy’ when it comes to the goalkeepers that is so unique? 🙂
Nonsense spin / guff.
"He understands Michael's philosophy and has a similar outlook on the game."
Says nothing about it being unique and it's Henderson understanding Appleton's philosophy not the other way round.
Of course it's a bit of a cliche but they are hardly going to say Mickey and Stevo don't share the same philosophy but we employed him anyway
My point stands.
Just a nonsense set of words.
Separately I remain very cynical about when the appointments were lined up to replace Holden and team and the nature of his sacking. No matter. It’s just football PR.
I think it is more telling that for all Scott's talk of going through a thorough recruitment process to ensure that coaches fit the club's model the two recruits we have seen have been "old boys network"
EG O'Donnell was previously MA's assistant and Pearce had bought Henderson presumably because he knew him and is local.
That's not to say that either are bad appointments, just that they appear from the outside to be more traditional then the talk suggested.
And we still haven't appointed the Director of Performance mentioned when the club was taken over or replaced George Jones who was running Charlton TV and the other streaming/video services.

Well the longer we don’t appoint the longer the budget can be stretched in other directions I guess.
Remains to be seen where we need to spend more and spend less.
My gut feel is we are light on coaching staff. Based on perception only and zero inside knowledge.
I'm really surprised at the negative opinions on Henderson. He was fantastic for us in goal, he just had fitness issues. Do people not remember the season when we had a 100% penalty record, which included both the penalties we gave away being saved by Henderson (the second of which was an incredible save)? He was superb and the opinion on here at the time was that he was the best we'd had in years, if he could only stay fit. Feels like he's a victim of having been around during one of the worst seasons in living memory. You can blame him for conceding as many goals as he did that season if you want, but considering he had Roger Johnson, Rhys Williams and Karel Fraeye to put up with I'm a bit amazed it wasn't more.
he had the minerals to come out and face the press after conceding 5 odd goals after a game when karel fraeye hid. Great character and great he's back as keeping coach.
Fraeye knew he was out after that game, I cannot blame him tbf. The club was in chaos.
Goalkeeping went backwards under Shimell - can’t say if he was at fault for it but I was warned when we got him thst he didn’t have a particularly good reputation in the game.
on to the new chap now and you’d like to think Hendo is modern enough as a goalie - just got to hope he’s got the formal training too and we get the best out of AMB and Istead.

Interesting. Makes you wonder how he got the gig in the first place then.

Andy Scott removed him, so maybe he'd heard something too...
Do GK coaches do badges? It seems one form of coaching where personal experience seems to trump classroom learning, as you never get outfield players doing specialist keeper coaching. It's probably similar to wicketkeepers, where you bring in a former wicketkeeper to give specialist coaching to current ones.

I wouldn't read anything at all into O'Donnell it's perfectly natural for a manager to bring in his number two. It happens all the time and it's far more than just giving his mate a job. I am glad that that's Appleton's call, not Scott's, because only one of them will get the sack if it goes the shape of a pear.
