Lots of people saying Donny were the best team on the night and unlucky to go out - remember, we were the best team up at their place and were unlucky to let a late goal in. A draw after 210 minutes was probably a fair result in my opinion.
Well done lads. Now regroup, work on the tactics, one last push and beat the Mackems.
We were truly awful tonight, as bad as i've seen us play all season. Credit to McCann he outthought Bowyer tonight. Although in Bowyers defence its always going to be difficult to change the tactics of side when you don't have any strikers on the bench. Playing badly and winning almost makes it sweeter though!
Without a shadow of a doubt the best home atmosphere I have ever experienced. The amount of people standing / chanting, watching us get right behind the boys louder than ever immediately after Doncaster scored their goals and never giving up. Absolute limbs when we equalised in extra time.

Amazing atmosphere, I'd forgotten what it was like to experience a full Valley
I'd also forgotten what a pain it is to get in, and the crush in the East Stand concourse. Even going to the toilet took most of half time!
Hopefully it will be a wake up call that we are human and potentially shit as well but the real winners tonight are Sunderland , we look shot to bits out there .
i knew we’d get to Wembley and once we made it 4-4 on aggregate I knew we’d win on penalties and there was no more goals in open play , it was proper weird deja vu unfortunately we’re gonna lose at Wembley , I cant do anymore than tell you what will happen . we've just had our cup final joy , it was mental
even my son who doesn’t like football loved it and was gutted when he found out Wembley was when we’re away , well I’m not and my eldest we’re moving our flights back two days .
fuck all them people coming to The Valley though , drunk pissy people smoking in the stands (and that’s just my sisters) but hey ho such is life
on the pitch as well like other clubs with a personality, love it .
Shattered.....up at 2:45am to watch the game from Perth....what a result. Still can't understand why Butler wasn't giving his marching orders. Credit to everyone at the Valley.....the stadium seemed to be in full voice for the majority of the game. A bit quite after Butler scored but in extra time and pens I'm sure the positive support helped get the boys over the line. Well done to all involved.
Tactically we were clueless, predictable, Created next to nothing, outnumbered everywhere, could not decide weather we wanted to press or not, back 4 staying deep, huge gaps in midfield. Bowyer and Jackson are great motivators but need tactical guidance.
But... we got away with this one...
If we want to get anything out of the final, our management team better take an honest look at this game, decide on a system and make sure everyone are on the same page. That said, great effort by the boys.
Don't care if he was rubbish, he wasn't alone, Naby is part of what got us here and I love him for it. He looked so nervous before the pens. But I'd put money right now on him being MOTM at Wembley. Class persists.
Worth a mention that Naby is Muslim and as it's Ramadan he'd not eaten or drunk anything all day. On that basis his performance was heroic. He wasn't terrible anyway.
It's fascinating reading other people's views on who played well and shit. If I am being blunt the majority of them looked like nervous wrecks, the magnitude of the game clearly got to a few, thankfully though it didn't seem to effect our pennos.
Dijksteel is a top top player. I was getting so wound up at his lack of involvement. I wasn't sure if it was the game plan not to pass to him but he was always in space and whenever he had the ball he was composed and positive. A true mystery why no one was spraying it out to him.
Mr 7.5 Purrs at it again. I'll honestly give Pratley a 10 fuck it. Scored the decisive goal and showed his experience tonight. I have slated him but he really pulled us through imo.
I'm not gonna dig out who was pants cause it's unfair based on one game, it's still their night and ours. All the people laughing at us for having a pitch celebration can piss off, that was a special game in my eyes and I won't forget it anytime soon.
Final note, I really wish we didn't get on their backs at times. Yeah we were pants but Donny were genuinely a very good side tonight. Had people around me screaming at our players and calling them bottle jobs etc, it just ain't on.
Anyway love this club, love this team, love our fans. I love you Charlton life, goodnight
I once (accidentally) punched my tv screen because of Marquis scoring for Millwall, was a throw away annoyed swing, but unfortunately connected and shattered my screen.
His pen miss has finally made me feel alright about the whole situation.
Got away with that tonight. Not sure about the three centre backs against a single striker but you have to say when you finish 15 points above a team in the league you deserve to go through at their expense regardless.
Firstly, we owe a huge thanks to Pratley, he was exceptional when he came on and gave us a fighting chance.
Doncaster played better BUT until their second goal never threatened to score, we were in control of our destiny.
Djiksteel then gets robbed on the edge of their box and they break on us and score - I thought we were done for.
Thankfully Lyle produced a great ball in, forced a mistake from the keeper and Pratley saved us.
Bowyer got his tactics wrong - no doubt about that but you have to be fair to him given his lack of options up top.
Our main problem was that we were not getting in behind them, all the football was being played in front of their back four.
Karlan would have been great out there tonight, he was the missing link to get behind them and keep turning their defence around.
Sadly Parker got exposed tonight as the journeyman he is, he gave us nothing in their final third, nothing at all and was giving the ball way regularly. Just not good enough.
Our top scorer and main goal threat, a certain Lyle Taylor seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time at right back or deep in midfield - it was telling that the one time he was in advanced position that he set up our goal.
Bowyer tried to be a bit cute in my view, if you have the best number 9 in the league - and we do - then leave him up top to do what he does best, we already have plenty of midfielders!
Poor performance but what a win! Sat behind Bowyer and he wasn’t a happy bunny about the refereeing. He and Jacko had a few choice words with the fourth official. Great atmosphere, got a brilliant video of the crowd on the pitch. Unreal night but hey, we got there in the end.

Who was it in the dugout that got booked?
Jackson according to the report on the OS
Yeah it was Jacko for kicking a water bottle after their goal.
I love football because on the day it is 11 v 11 and who performs best. All of Donny were on top form. All of ours a bit under par except for Dijksteel who was brilliant and mom until he gave the ball away which led to their third.
But we won! Somehow!! Loved it!!
The Reds are going up...
What an atmosphere - never seen the like.
Need to set alarm for Wembley tickets.
@oohaahmortimer, for once you are wrong. Charlton get promoted when we play: Carlisle away (x3) Sunderland at Wembley (soon to be x2) Preston at home (x1)
Well, what can I say. A poor perfomance, possibly the worst I've seen us defensively in some time with Bauer, Sarr and Bielik (as defensive midfielders) all having poor games, though Bielik scored and it was Naby making the dummy run that upset their defence and as for Paddy, perhaps his mind was slightly elsewhere having become a father earlier in the day. I'm sure we'll see better performnaces from all of them at Wembley.
Dijksteel has really matured as a player in the past few months and was arguably Charlton's MOM.
Donny pressed very well, always putting pressure on our defenders when playing in our half and that gave them the platform by restricting our long passes and time on the ball. They did very well and are obviously disappointed. They probably deserved it over the two legs......but I don't care.
I don't remember dancing alone in my living room previously like I did following the penalty miss. Fortunately no one else was there to witness it.
I hope I can dance in my seat at Wembley in a week and a bit's time!
Funny reading all of the views on here, and how everybody sees the game in different ways.
The further the game went on, I thought that Djeekstel looked increasingly nervous, culminating in him going on a 'Sammy Solo', and losing possession for them to break on us.
Also Purrington may be a steady eddie defensively, but our lack of penetration on either flank makes us predictable at times.
You can see that Parker lacks quality up front, and the fact that we don't even have a fourth choice striker on the bench, speaks volumes for the lack of resources that Bowyer has to work with.
Definitely got away with that one, and the team selection for Wembley will be interesting to say the least, there is a strong argument that the team will benefit from the experience of Solly and Pearce.
Tactics wrong. Too cautious. (Their third goal offside though!) BUT the best noise and passion ever at the Valley. Where did all the fans come from? My view is that those that were kids in the premiership years have all come back with their mates as men and women. A new kind of support. #rolandout

we always do things the hard way and fuck me did we do that tonight!
brilliant feeling at the end though...not felt that emotional at football in years

In my lifetime.
None of us will spot when a clever run creates space for a teammate, or when smart defensive positioning discourages an early cross etc.
Having said that I struggle to see what Parker adds - would prefer to see Williams in a free role behind Taylor.
