Saw an interview where they mentioned he doesnt have a phone or email address, he seems to have completley taken himself away from the light and is enjoying his work at the Nissan factory

Sky interview said he wasn’t gonna be there I’m sure

He was working until midnight on Saturday at Nissan,so doubt he'd be at Wembley.

As Clive isn't employed by Cafc anymore surely he would've  wanted his home town club to win. Can you imagine if Rob Elliott stopped Charlton winning a playoff final.
Lucky for us the whole of Newcastle were cheering on Charlton.

Anyone got the video of the SKY sports interview with him?

I only saw the last 5 seconds of it when it was on SSN.

TV coverage showed interviews of him, but nothing at the ground.

So sad. Sounds like he doesn't like to reminisce about his career.

I think he doesn’t like the thought of it and the planning process that goes into it setting it up ....but once he’s being interviewed he really opens up and you can’t shut him up.

understandable if you have a job you love , where you went out on a high through no fault of your own.

I wouldn't really want to relive what could have been, it must have been very tough to get over and one of the only way would be to shut out football completely.

Great memories but kind of tainted (if the right word?), pretty sad story IMO

Saw an interview where they mentioned he doesnt have a phone or email address, he seems to have completley taken himself away from the light and is enjoying his work at the Nissan factory
Enjoying his work at the Nissan Factory

Really, you reckon, I find that hard to believe.

I think he enjoys working there so picks that over other options.

Perhaps working in the Nissan factory gives him enough money to live on and he doesn’t have any spare cash to bet with.

I think it emphasises how relatively short a footballers career is and there is only so many pundits in the media you will ever need.

Maybe when players do move on from The Valley for the money there is a reason for that...... if you were sensible with it, earning an extra £20k a week will be enough to live off for many years post retirement.

In the interview I read, he doesn’t mention that he enjoys working there, he does say he should have looked after his money more, which reading between the lines suggests as
@SoundAsa£ alluded to, blown all his money.

I recall something along the lines of selling career memorabilia to help his wife set up a business - didn't Charlton buy his play off final boots or his medal ?

From the Mail interview @JiMMy 85 posted on here:
" In a few hours he will clock on at Nissan and work until midnight. In his own words, there are times when it's 'f****** hard', especially given the adulation of the career he had...
Charlton, though, were relegated and Mendonca later retired aged 32 because of a hip injury.
'I had to accept it, but I wish I'd looked after my money. It's hard, going from Wembley to a production line. But that was my fault, I've just got to get on with it.' "
