I think Mrs D gave Roland an earful last night when he got home as they sat eating their dinner. It can be the only reason why that idiot came to his senses.
Apparently she said it while they washed and dried the dishes. (Football club owners spend too much on dishwashers)
My guess is that Bowyer was always going to sign a new deal , but quite rightly was trying to get the best deal possible for himself. Roland issued that ridiculous statement to force Bowyer''s hand & Bowyer blinked first
Reading the BBC report, I think Roland blinked. Apologies can't cut and paste link onto here with crap phone.
I have no idea how the communications are run at the club, so I'm assuming it's done via a PR agency. If our nutty professor wants to cut costs I suggest he starts with this mob.
Roland heard I was leaving and knew that he could sell the club for more with me around saying it was worth £77.5M. So he signed Bowyer to keep me here.

After yesterday's moronic outburst, could we read into this that a takeover could still be imminent? Why else would Bowyer sign without being given assurances ?
Imagine the celebrations as a side on the crest of a wave having just won promotion manages to keep its rising star of a manager days before he walks out on them by offering him a rolling one-year contract #bobbins
I wonder if Bowyer, and not Roland, caved. Bowyer might have felt he just could not leave the fans in the lurch. I would believe that more than Roland coming to his senses, because he has never done that once.
What a turnaround. From depths of despair last night to utter joy this morning. Lee agreeing a new contract has to be the best signing of the summer. Onwards and upwards!

Yes, Bowyer definitely "caved" when Roland played his master stroke of doubling the offer to Lee to £400k pa

From where negotiations were last week, I reckon they just changed the length of contract.
Bowyer wanted at least 2 years, naturally - he's trying to build something here.
Duchatelet wouldn't accept any long term financial liability, in case he needed to fire Bowyer or prospective buyers wanted their own man.
The compromise: the rolling 1 year contract.
Everybody is happy for now. And a rolling contract for Bowyer always gives him 12 months ahead or compensation if he's fired. And it can always be renegotiated with new owners.

That the key point - anyone coming in can simply extend it. Which is great.

Oh sorry, I did not hear about the £400k. I woke up to 30 pages of posts. Is that official?

What a load of rubbish! They are Charlton fans who work hard under trying circumstance.
They same people who made the great Betty and Lyle video and others.

Our entire communications department is 4 people. I suspect with this madness, they are among the most overworked lot in our club.

Also fair play to RedHenry and whoever else it was who called it by sharing their information. Appreciate that
It's like being strapped to the back of the Hadron Collider!
