Can't imaging growing up without his voice somewhere in my landscape.
His phrasing was so unique, so infectious.
As Caetano Veloso sang - listing all the great Brazilian musicians:
"Better than this there is only silence, and better than silence there's Joao"...

Rest in peace quiet man.

    Ah feck. At 88 he had a good innings.

    Even so, possibly *the* greatest Brazilian musician ever - the father of bossa nova - the key to so many wonderful jazz standards; players; idioms; and ideals - passing away, has hit me hard. RIP.

    I hope a few of you can spend a truly wonderful half-hour (well, just over) to listen to Getz/Gilberto. It's nothing short of a masterpiece. I hope you enjoy it.
