ATM's 40 years old today

First one in Enfield today in 1967.

Strange to think that you had to get to the bank by 3.30pm to queue up and get cash out by signing a cheque. If you didn't get there in time on a Friday that was it. No cash for the weekend as the banks didn't open Saturdays.

Maybe the pub would cash a cheque if they knew you but most wouldn't.

The good old days were sh*t. Nothing worked, London was grey and it closed at 11.00, everyone was on the dole or on strike, only three TV Channels and Charlton were rubbish most of the time.

Thank God the music was so good. In fact maybe that was why the music was so good.

  • Ah, but Henry, we had the huge East Terrace........where we learned to appreciate our heroes through rose-tinted glasses, before gravitating to the Covered End. ;-)
  • thought everyone was shagging each other 40 years ago, free love and all that.
