The great thing about yesterday was both subs George and Macauley made an immediate impact which hasn't happened for some time. Luton tired, because TBF to them they had spent a lot of time attacking.
Not being OTT here at all but the 18 squad is getting stronger despite the constant set back with Jonny Williams.
George Lapslie being available will give us the energy we have lacked since Gallagher left. Some way to go to emulate Conor but the confidence he garnered yesterday will give him such a lift.
I think a teensy bit of perspective is need here before we all cream our collective pants. George had a terrific 40 minutes yesterday in a game against the championship’s worst team. He did little last season in league 1 to suggest that he was more than a league 1 bit part player and has not kicked on much this year, partly due to injury. He seems to be a fantastic lad and is one of our own but he hasn’t suddenly become the Messiah. I love his Duracell bunny effort and he’s ok technically but he has a lot of developing to do before he is the next Pratley or better. Good luck to the lad and I really hope he makes it with us as we progress but let’s just be careful we don’t build his pedestal too high on the back of half a good game.
I can't believe some people are so quick to play down Lapslie.
Let's put a couple of things in perspective: the lad has had a lengthy injury absence; and yet he played 40 energetic minutes yesterday at what appeared virtually full match fitness. That takes some doing after missing such a large part of the season - a player who truly looks after himself.
The injury couldn't have come at a worse time for him personally. With Charlton's chronic injury crisis recently, a fit Lapslie would surely have established himself as a valuable 1st team player during that time?
Before his injury, I remember Lapslie coming on as an early sub and for an hour playing a terrific role in the fullback position, under constant pressure, as we somehow beat Brentford that day. Bowyer was very complimentary about him, his performance and his adaptability.
Yesterday we saw what he can do in his own position. Since Gallagher left we've been crying out for someone who has the energy, drive and vision to play that role - and what a difference he made linking the defence with attack, making space and some pretty tidy footwork. His involvement in scoring our 3rd goal was immense. He was both the fulcrum and the result, his movement to collect the lay off from Taylor in the box, neat and accurate outside of the boot short pass to the tightly marked Bonne's feet ...... and then he spun off and kept moving into the 6 yard box anticipating Bonne's return ball, his momentum taking him into a position where he couldn't miss.
His assured very tidy ball control, the vision and movement in the box ripped that Luton defence apart. Don't tell me he's proved nothing yet. And while he's not yet the 'finished article', his attitude, performance and goal will give George the belief he can establish himself here. There's more to come from this lad.

Without a doubt my least favourite thing about Charlton Life is the rule that we all have to share one pair of pants. Don't know why I ever signed up to that clause.
I am happy for Lapslie. A fantastic performance which changed momentum during the match but I think we are all getting caught up in the buzz of one excellent performance. He has been completely anonymous or poor for his other 4 or 5 appearances in the Championship. A good squad player who brings a lot of energy but comparing him to premier league players, calling him a future squad captain or thinking he automatically should be starting rest of the season is crazy. Let’s not have unrealistic expectations here.
This.
Think some are getting a bit carried away. Very happy for George though and hope he continues to stay fit
Interesting he only found out he was in the team on Friday afternoon via. a Whatsapp message - I know Purrington was ill so wonder it that happened late on and he was due to be starting with Doughty on the bench
Another player crediting the new physio. Interesting that it seems the injury was misdiagnosed. It took a third scan to pick it up and only because that one was a different scanner. He says it was "high definition" image - not sure if that means the image was just clearer or they used a high definition scanner? @Sage is that normal practice?
Thanks for the information Henry. Despite being Duchalet related, I would still see that (in my eyes) that we failed to diagnose him correctly with the tools available to detect the issue.

Because they didn't have the proper tools perhaps.
Many are quick to blame staff when often the problems within organisations come ultimately from poor management and underfunding.
There is always room for improvement by individuals but the narrative that large number of injuries = incompetent medical staff is IMHO false as it ignores the wider issues as well as the specific issues of each injury.
@DessieValley it’s normal practice to initially use an ultrasound scan for injuries, they don’t cost as much and can give a relative idea on the problem. I don’t know what scans were done, I didn’t hear much about Lapslie to be completely honest. But they definitely would have spent money to use a high definition and clearer scan.
But I’ve said it before and will say it again, just after @Henry Irving has made the same excellent point... the tools, budget, and equipment that we have had to work with in comparison to the rest of the league, you wouldn’t believe. Roland under funded the budget for the transfers, now imagine what it was for the medical team. Since ESI have came through the door, we have brought in Murphy who has been praised by Solly, Taylor, Bowyer, and now Lapslie. They’ve provided more money to spend on the scans, to spend on resources including people, and equipment. It’s no surprise that we have players back from injury.
As has been said, the comments about our medical and sports science staff have been completely unfair. If you went to work and had old facilities, no money to improve and equipment just not up to the standard of other businesses, you would struggle to do your job effectively and therefore compete in the same sector. It’s no different at our club. So the work they have done has been phenomenal.
Now we have an exceptional physio involved, and if I were ESI, I would do everything I can to ensure he stays here for as long as possible. Imagine where we would be had we had a squad who were fit for the vast majority of the season.

Most of the time it wouldn’t be the diagnosis that is the issue. You’d likely get the same diagnosis wherever you went. Most of the time it’s the actual rehabilitation that makes the difference. And this is exactly where Murphy comes in.
I may be reading too much into the interview with Lapslie but I thought it said:
I had some hamstring trouble, had a scan, we did some work on it, when I thought I was back to full fitness, it broke.
I had the same scan, same diagnosis, did some general work on hamstring rehabilitation, thought I was back to full fitness, it broke.
Danny Murphy or someone under ESI asked for a different higher resolution scan that proved that it was a particular tendon issue and since then the rehab has focussed on that specific issue. It’s been very effective and I’m back to fitness without it breaking down (touch wood) faster than I thought.
so a combination of isolating the particular injury and effective work to rehab that particular injury.
Very sensible and important stuff and not anything duchatelet would have understood.

I’m only passing on what mate said, relax .

why will he be fined for putting the ball under his shirt?
“The third time was a bit of a silver lining because they got the right thing, for some reason they used a different kind of scanner.
The last time was high resolution."
Ah think I've found the reason for our injury nightmare, we've been using SD scanners! Probably with a scart lead too.
It was mentioned that he'd had hamstring problems on the OS and he was listed as one of the dozen plus injured players.
Duchatelet underfunded everything including the medical team. Paying more for a higher quality scan found the problem.
Amazing how a little investment brings benefits.

I think, coming from him, this interview is quite revealing.
His only league loss this season... Well it's the result that proves he is one of ours. He came on for the last few minutes against Millwall.
So in his 5 Championship games he has an 80% win ratio:
90" = Win Blackburn
4" = Win Stoke
57" = Win Brentford
6" = Loss Millwall
35" Win Luton
He may not have been outstanding in his games, but it seems he was beneficial.
For those wondering his other game was the Forest Green game in which he played right midfield... Certainly not his preferred position.
