What to do on a miserable wet day (for those retired / not working)

For all of those who have to go out to work, do not read anymore

As an OAP, it is lovely in the summer and it is warm and sunny, but what to do on a day like today where is is absolutely gushing down and cold? Easy, put on the recent play off at Wembley against Sunderland and enjoy, stress free, all over again. I know some of you younger folk will name a few other things that I have not got the energy for anymore, but I enjoyed 3 hours from build up to celebrations.

Got my haircut, went to the gym, had a look at CL (do most days), it's brightened up down here now so off out for a pint or 2 down the Old Town before meeting Mrs H for a few more drinks and dinner....she is working from home tomorrow so don't have to get up at 5.30am.

Wife got her hair done, had a light lunch out, spent the afternoon playing some favourite CD’s and reading, off out in an hour or so for drinks and dinner in our favourite local Italian restaurant, Il Vesuvio in Bexleyheath.

Just had a nice swim. Been lazing about most of the day reading and listening to music.  Mind you, it’s about 28 degrees here!! ☀️🏊🏼‍♂️🎧😎

Wish I could enjoy a 3 hour build up and celebration.

Not retired as of yet however, put logs on the fire, take the dogs out, read the papers via the Ipad, loads of tea, dogs out once again footy on the TV, hopefully a dry day tomorrow

Newly retired but finding each day hectic. After brekki I do about an hour learning German on Duolingo. Emails and YouTube take me up to lunch. Additional hour learning the ukulele combined with my guitar. After lunch normally results in a deep siesta and then start thinking of a couple of pints in the local unless I visit an art gallery/exhibition. Rainy days are new but have no problem filling my day at the moment. I’ve still to make a start on painting my masterpiece. 
Sometimes i feel that it was less stress working full time! 🤔

Woke up at eightish, two cups of tea whilst reading the Times and then out with the Missus and the Dog through Maryon Wilson Park and Charlton Park. Brunch before doing some paperwork and a couple of jobs around the house. Bit of time with the girls after school and met a friend at The River Ale House for a few pints. Just catching up on CL before bed. Tomorrow is another day.

Reading this thread has made me realise that it's time to seriously think about retiring.

I play golf unless impossible,I have played guitar and other stringed instruments for many years and can always lock myself away for a few hours and try to improve(I am 75 with Parkinsons so a bit of a challenge),my son is married to a Russian Lady,I had to learn enough Russian to make a speech 5 years ago in St.Petersburgh,I have tried to keep it up but not the easiest of languages,but very satisfying,I do plenty of puzzles to keep the old grey matter ticking over,always something to do.

It's wood collecting and chopping time of year for me. The last few storms have brought down some lovely dry branches. I'm not a great fan of winter, but sitting by the fire with 'free' wood and a glass of sloe gin is one of the good bits of it.

I just want to retire now and watch cricket every day, Australia/New Zealand from October-April. Then back to England from May-September. pure bliss. 26 is a good time to pack in working right?

Doing a bit of charity work for the elderly this week, mainly a bit of driving about around Maidstone for doctors/hospital appointments along with (legal) drug deliveries.

I often sit by the fire with wood. Annoys my wife though, especially when the in laws are over.

I'm 48 but enjoyed reading the thread as it's given me something to look forward to. 
If I get run over by a bus in the next 12 years I will be absolutely fucking furious.

Played indoor football for 2 hours followed by yoga for an hour went home and watched about 3 hours worth of sport ...went to quiz night at the local came 2nd ..watched the capture when I got in 

Funnily enough it's a beautiful day today so if it does stay dry I 'll be in garden cutting back etc

Met in the Royal Standard and then went to the Hastings Arms (Ruby Tuesday....lamb Madras).

It's the ultimate time v money trade off isn't it. Although I'm still quite a way off, the thought of retirement focuses my mind on what is more important. I could work for 20 more years and retire very comfortably off, or do another 10 years and have to live a very simple life. The latter is more appealing right now.

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. I am not looking forward to coming back on Sunday.  Advanced planning trip for retirement in a couple of years.
