"Palace consider themselves the 'Pride of south London'" - You've got to laugh
Why? I dislike palace as much as the next person but I'm objective enough to recognise they are in a better place than us at the moment. They would laugh at us making a similar claim.

They are linked with my sons football club , Buckhurst Hill in Essex , running extra training and trying to scalp some of the younger kids . Anyone can go but I refuse for any of mine to attend , not that they’d be good enough to progress further but can’t be linked with them Croydon muppets .
They can pump as much money into the scheme as they like, it’s the end product that counts, ie players getting a chance to progress to the first team and develop from there. That’s what really counts when you build and try and sustain a youth ladder.
Very true, @letthegoodtimesroll, but if Palace can point to a Catagory 1 set up attached to a Premier club, there are going to be plenty of able young players and their ambitious parents who see that as a better option than Charlton with a Catagory 2 academy attached to a Championship club.
Unless they already have family connections with CAFC, will they realise there is a higher probability of the youngster progressing to regular first team football at The Valley than at Sellhurst? And that's even before we consider the "Duchatelet Effect" hanging over us!
With a sensible owner who understood football, we would ourselves have had a Cat 1 academy by now, and it would be far less of a potential threat.
Is there any update on our supposed bid for Category 1 status? I only ask as a mate I know has recently attended a meeting at Sparrows Lanenwhere he was asked to do some part time scouting as part of a move towards cat 1 status. Certainly surprised me but I trust the person telling me implicitly.

No news about cat 1. However the trench walls are looking a tad untidy.

We are talking about a club that had Jonny Williams on its books and couldn’t find a place for him so how are they going to recognise and develop young footballing talent through to the first team ?
An excellent point, @letthegoodtimesroll, but again, would young lads or their parents who are not Palace or Charlton supporters be aware of such things? They may find plan A of getting the lad into, say, Chelsea's academy impossible, and be looking for a plan B.
Also remember Jonny had a lot of injury issues while at Palace which no doubt coloured the fans views there; Addicks are not immune to such pigeon-holing!!
Has anyone got any stats on Palace academy players making 1st team debuts? I'd guess it would be a short piece of A4.
To be fair during our Premier League years you could write our list on the other side of the same sheet of paper.
Football works in cycles nothing stays the same forever, one day Zaha will leave Palace and the tables will turn with us back above them even if it doesn't look like it. The process started last season with our return to The Championship.

Zaha left palace and didn’t play for them in the 2013/14 season , unfortunately they didn’t get relegated and finished 11th in the prem . this season will be the 13th on the spin they have finished above us , with them unlikely to go down and us with a small chance of promotion this doesn’t look like ending that quickly . The previous 9 seasons we finished above them . The previous 9 to that they finished above us !
Previous 4 us on top .
This cycle has gone on far too long , thankfully it’s different with our real rivals the scum
They have finished above us the last 3 seasons , hopefully that stops this season . Previous 4 we finished above the scum previous 3 scum above us the previous 15 us above them a run of a few seasons of them than us finishing above each other and before that we had a 10 year run of above the scum.
so it is cyclical but this run of palaces is a disaster
