  • I am a big fan of salad cream but mayo for me
  • The correct ratio is 50/50.
  • Love salad cream, me, was reared on it. Mum wouldn't have mayo in the house.

More chance of salad cream winning Sam, what with the curse of Mayo.
  • Egg Mayo...do you make it with eggs or small car parts?
  • both are fucking nasty
  • As every right thinking person has said, it is in the name. Egg Mayonnaise

It would be called Egg Salad Cream otherwise.

I was reared on salad cream too. It was shit then and it's shit now.
  • when making egg mayonnaise sarnies do you use salad cream or mayonnaise? I always use salad cream, can't abide it with mayonnaise. Morrisons sell it as a sandwich filler as either. What does everyone else use?
Why are you calling it an egg mayonnaise sandwich when there’s no mayonnaise in it....that’s a bit weird LA.
  • You can't beat a salad cream sandwich.  Bread, marg, salad cream, done.

Salad cream, cheddar and prawn cocktail crisp sandwich made with soft white bread and pressed flat with the heel of your hand before consumption.
Add lettuce if you're one of those healthy types.
  • Always added salad cream to a mashed up boiled egg. Not the same with mayo

Egg mayo has mayo in it, probably cress and a decent amount of pepper.

Egg with salad cream may be ok and maybe some people might prefer it, but sorry it’s definitely not egg mayo.

Mayo no question. what kind of animal are you?
    A non French one.
Mayonnaise isn’t French, it’s Spanish, named after the town of Mahon, Menorca.
  • Anyway, egg mayonnaise isn’t one of those strange names like Bombay duck where the item in the name isn’t in the food. If you want to make egg mayonnaise, you have to use egg and mayonnaise. If you mix egg and salad cream you have egg salad cream. If that is what you like, that’s fine. Just don’t call it egg mayonnaise.

Saying that we never had mayo at home growing up, don’t think I tried it until I was about 17

Whilst i sort of agree with what your saying, mayonnaise is also a base ingredient for other sauces. The french have a sauce that is mayo with capers added and is lovely with a piece of fish. Bit like tartar sauce but better, i cant think what its called though. Some add mustard to mayo so adding salad cream i dont see the difference. Me personally i like mayo with fries and thats about it not really a fan of it on sandwiches.
Also if its just about the name then if you can have egg mayonnaise or egg hollandaise why not egg saladaise😉

I read somewhere that it was first made by British soldiers under siege by the French and Spanish in Mahon to make their rations more palatable.

One of my favourites.......white bread, cathedral city cheese spread, cheese n Onion Discos and salad cream.

Mayo is just a tasteless white greasy slip to me.

Team salad cream all the way.

There's an old saying in Charlton that you can beat an egg but you can't beat a wank.
