So, so special to be back at The Valley for a league game for the first time after boycotting for over three years. I had to wipe away a few tears and looking over to see a packed Covered End with a cracking atmosphere made me teary-eyed quite often. Sure there were a few things to improve on but the team, cobbled together without any real tactical rhyme or structure, fought so hard for a well-deserved point. A very happy and proud Charlton fan tonight.
Great effort and team spirit from the lads today. Just a shame that we gifted them them the lead albeit Lockyer atoned with the equaliser. Hopefully with some new additions and returnees we can keep a clean sheet soon and wont have to score three goals to win a game much longer 😏.
Special mention for Josh Davison (JD) who's praises I sung recently after watching him in the 2nd half of an u23 game a couple of months ago. His hold up play and heading ability that day was no flash in the pan as we've all now witnessed. Maybe his early brief cameos didn't impress others but Bowyer knows what he can offer and has kept faith with him. I mean why you would want to play Naby up top instead of JD with Taylor and Bonne sidelined, beggars belief.
Got to be happy coming from behind twice against the draw specialists. Nobody in the league has drawn more than West Brom's 11. That said they've only lost 2 so are a tough team to beat. Credit to Bows game management and to those boys on the pitch. Other results today we're excellent for us. Even Barnsley winning keeps Hudds below is. Don't care how tight it is so long as we above at least 3or more. Hoping for new faces to add to Bows choices. Great atmosphere by sound of it.
What was the 'racist" tannoy warning announcement for?
I didn’t hear that.
It was played during half time, sounded like a warning that reports had been made and people caught making chants would be evicted from the ground.
Aimed at charlton or West Brom or general comment?
They play it at every game
Why would they play it when there's no racism reported?
It's a message that all types of offensive behaviour will not be tolerated.
A great and loud home crowd, a decent away following, a ref who was out of his depth, shenanigans by the away crowd that ultimately hindered their own team, some very good and skilful players on show, last gasp defending, some titanic battles , yellow cards, two equalisers and a panto villain aka Darren Pratley.
Great game to watch, Bowyer always puts out a team that competes. Thought Davison played very well up front and caused them problems. Was impressed with the quality of WBA but thought they massively overplayed at times and a lot of players of theirs seemed more interested in showing their skills than hurting us. Pratley absolutely rattled them to the core. Liked the look of Green definitely has some quality about him.
Just my personal opinion, but I don’t think Bowyer is great when dealing with the press (which in the grand scheme of things doesn’t matter whilst he is managing the way he does) The strange comment, now this. I wouldn’t read too much in to it to be honest.
Why? - Not surprised he's not spoken to his Agent seeing he had to prepare for the game
When he says he's got to see if its a 5-year deal or one year rolling over five years just says to me as though he's hypothesising what it could be without seeing the deal
Either im dumb or pissed but seems odd. Is it Lee that is not wanting long term commitment?
He joked during the press conference that he wanted 10 so I don't think so. I don't think even he expected a 5 year deal so I'm sure it's a lot to process for him
Thought we would get battered today as wba have a lot of quality. They turned out to be dirty mugs and our u23 team showed more class for most of the match than they showed.
think we were a little unlucky with both their goals but overall a very decent result for us.
in our new NWQ half season seats, very happy with them. Great to see the north upper and lower and the west stand so full.
East stand east stand give us a song, you guys need to step up.
great game, brilliant to come back twice and we could have won with a bit more luck.
with fingers crossed and bodies back, the reds are staying up, and moving on.
Comments
Need to cut out careless defensive errors.
Tackle of the season from Sarr - timed it perfectly.

Looking forward to Preston next week COYRs!

Couple of his crosses would have been superb if we had midfielders arriving late in the box.
Hemed showed some good touches and was moving well.
Some adjustments needed to the formation.
Great game.
Davison looked brilliant and don't think anyone had a bad game.
Shout out to Lockyer for getting a goal and seeing his teaching efforts come good with a great last ditch tackle by Naby.
Special shout out to Darren Pratley for being Darren Pratley.
Erm, did you leave early?
When he says he's got to see if its a 5-year deal or one year rolling over five years just says to me as though he's hypothesising what it could be without seeing the deal
Others will think that's poor but it's a huge jump from most games this season.
The potential is there.
Great, full blooded game.
Thought WBA were faster, slicker and better but Philips wasn't asked to do too much for all their possession.
We battled throughout, none more so than Josh Davison.
Alfie was great again and Green impressed.
Defence looked more solid despite two sloppy goals.
People will talk about the return of Williams but JFC was more impressive, holding the midfield together and moving the ball quickly and simply.
No way do we go down playing like that.
Highlight of the day was meeting
@cantersaddick
Lowlight was all the extra traffic after the game. Bring back gates of 10k
as a legit striker and option today for me

we’ve got our Charlton back, we’ve got our Charlton back.
And just give Bowyer a 5 year permanent contract where we have to pay him out of it screws up. A 6/12 month notice period isn’t good enough Matt.
Another useless ref.
Davidson was brilliant today.
Some poor defending cost us.
mom Pratley, but some very good other performances.
At times Sarr looks brilliant at times he looks like a Sunday league player.
Poetic justice when the scummy wba fans kept the ball and we scored from the corner.
Dirty northern bastards, was about right today.
Delighted with a deserved point.
