After the Goldrush - Neil Young

    Tell me why

    After the Goldrush

Only love can break your heart
St Etienne's version of this song is so much better than the original. Far too melancholy for me.

It's Neil Young, of course it's melancholy.

Beyond film soundtracks, I'm really struggling to think of any instrumental tracks I like. *cough* Flying, by Chas and Dave.

A 3rd nomination would be No Need to Argue by The Cranberries:

    Zombie
    Ode to My Family
    I Can’t Be With You

Beautiful album.... but are they the opening three tracks?

Aside from that, there a many albums that start strong by many artists, although most can’t carry that promise through to the end.

Well everyone loves Apache, but I haven't thought of that song since I was leaning to play the guitar 25 years ago.

    I've thought of one.

Any Color You Like - Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon.

    Oasis - Definitely Maybe

    1. Rock n Roll Star
    2. Shakermaker
    3. Live Forever
The correct answer. Especially as the first song is the best opening song of a debut album of all time.

    Nevermind - Nirvana

    1. Smells Like Teen Spirit
    2. In Bloom
    3. Come As You Are
    A great second choice.

Trick of the Tail - Genesis.

    Dance on a Volcano.
    Entangled
    Squonk
My Mrs has got that on at the moment.
I'm at the point of finding the most blunt knife we have in the house and chopping my member and nads off and throwing them down the garden to ease the pain of listening to this.
If you do then I expect she'll be in need of a replacement to satisfy her. Seeing as me & her obviously have the same great taste in music I'd be happy to help her out anytime she needs a good....... 😉

I agree about Moondance,  esp Into the Mystic -  such a great song.

From what I've seen here, I'd say that The Stone Roses are clear winners followed by Velvet Underground and The Specials with an honourable mention to Simple Minds.

Some also rans from me: Japan - Tin Drum (The Art of Parties, Talking Drum, Ghosts), Depeche Mode - Violator (World In My Eyes, Sweetest Perfection, Personal Jesus); Flight of the Conchords eponymous (Foux Da Fafa, Inner City Pressure, Hiphopopotamus vs. Rymenoceros)

Songs From The Big Chair is superior in my opinion. Would easily make my top 10 records from.the 80s, one of my favourite albums ever.
