Davis looks a better passer than Pratley to me. This might the chance to move Pratley into the defence, if we play a 3. Looks the best of the January arrivals, with Green second. Probably harsh to judge Smith on last night but he looked out of his depth- would rather use Morgan. I can't see where McGeady fits in, other than as an impact sub.
Far too early to judge Smith and McGeady.
An impact sub is something we didn’t have a month or two ago so that strengthens the squad. As well as another alternative to Williams he gives us more options for playing with wingers.
Of course you're right it's too early but Smith didn't really even look like a footballer. Was like a fan had won a competition.
I remember a lot of people said this about Jay Dasilva when he made his belated debut for us as a sub. Took him a litte bit to settle but he turned out to be a quality player once he had
So Davis is now OK after his "poor" first game but "good" second game but it's hard to see where Smith and McGeady will fit in after their first games?
Maybe give players a little more than one game and Bowyer more credit for seeing where they might fit in.
The context of the game is so often lost on fans. I think people are being really harsh on Smith. He was brought on to provide support to Purrington who was being doubled and trippled up on after Forest brought Cash on. Smith may not have been flying into tackles, or marauding forward with the ball on the break but he was very clearly brought on to do a job. He held position and ensured that Purrington always had a Charlton player next to him when Forest attacked and was never left isolated (as has happened to him on a few occasions this season). The fact that, despite continuing to focus their attacks down our left, Forest didn't really create anything from that side after Smith came on, says that he did the job he was asked to do and it worked.
There will be other matches where we are more on top where he will get an opportunity to show if he can contribute going the other way.
I didn’t think Davis was that bad on Saturday anyway. A bad first half, but he settled in the second half, and took that into last night. Indeed I thought he was better than Cullen
Agreed, I thought Davis played well against Stoke & Forest & both performances were about the same.
I'm sure if we lose some fans think nearly all our players were shite and when we win they think nearly all our players are great.
Booked in both games .. he's an experienced Champ defensive midfield tough guy and knows what to do and what he can get away with, just does his job quietly and doesn't stand out too much .. Bowyer likes him and that'll do .. another very shrewd signing from the Addicks management brains trust ((:>)
I also don't understand what people were expecting from Smith?
He was thrown in by Bowyer during the last embers of the game to just be another body in midfield. Run around a bit and try and close the ball down. Please don't write him off after that.

Bit of composure on the ball perhaps, tracking runners. I've not written him off despite my possibly OTT comments, obviously hope he'll have a successful spell here.

Much better last night.
