  • This’ll be good. Will tune in later for a real moan fest.
  • Does he fancy a run out for us again?
  • We didn't deserve anything from yesterday.
    Another really poor defensive display.

One of the issues was pointed out by Steve Brown on Radio London, at the start of the game.
Stoke have a lot of tall players, we don't.
They were at an advantage at set pieces, as only Lockyer, Pearce, Purrington and Taylor have any height.
Sarr is tall but couldn't be trusted to be part of the starting line up.

We really could have done with getting a result against a team in a similar predicament to us and the fact we played so poorly and didn't get anything from the game is very concerning.
The first goal no one tracked any of their runners from a free kick into the box.
The second we failed to clear the ball or make any meaningful challenge when Stoke played the ball into the box.
The third, we allowed them to attack again without putting in a tackle.

Conceding 2+ goals a game, as we have done many times this season, is relegation form and it's starting to look like a straight up fight between us and Wigan Athletic to stay in the league.
We're four points ahead of Wigan with a better goal difference, so it's in our hands.

I think we will have to target winning our home games against the teams around us and hope that's enough to keep us up.
I just hope Bows and Jacko can get the team to tighten up at the back, if we're going to pick up any points from the away fixtures.
We don't want to really be going into the last game of the season (away at Leeds) needing a result.

  • A great day out, spoiled by the football!

Let’s be honest, we were blooming lucky to get a win against Barnsley last weekend, yesterday’s performance was woeful, lacking in energy and ideas, the players looked knackered, as if they’d already played the Forest match.

Why do you think this is?

Do we just write off the Forest game, put Hemed up front, rest Taylor for Blackburn game on Saturday bring in Alfie and Naby, and give Pratley a rest?

Should we switch to 5 at the back, Forest are a decent side pushing for playoffs / automatic spot, would be very happy with a point.

I know it’s nice we’ve got a sell out crowd next weekend, but I’m more bothered about how we are playing at the moment, is something not right behind the scenes, the players looked utterly dejected at the train station after the match (Williams aside)  I guess they are not going to be a barrel of laughs after a defeat, but we need to get them firing and back on track ASAP, did Lee Bowyer sound angry in his after match interview, didn’t see him at the station, unless he was on a different train back because of interviews afterwards?

ps any news on when Macauley Bonne will be back up to speed?

  • It is clear that we have a back five of whom only two (Phillips and arguably Matthews) are championship standard. The rest are either league 1 level (Pearce, Purrington) or not yet proven (Sarr, Lockyer). It is therefore to my mind folly to play a midfield system that relies on us sitting criminally deep and inviting teams on to us because said defensive line will simply not be able to cope for prolonged periods. It was fair enough when we were forced to play the kids in midfield because, frankly, there was no option. But it’s neither sensible or desirable now that we have a full squad to pick from.
  • Taylor lost his man for their first goal and Matthews switched off from marking McLean who couldn't believe his luck for a simple tap in. For theIr second, three of our players appeared mesmerised at the oncoming player in the inside right position, whilst Matthews failed to keep a tight line and played Ince onside to score. Their third was a failure by Purrington to cut out the cross, Pearce looked like he was standing in treacle and Lockyer allowed Powell to get a yard on him to be first to the ball and score, shambolic! Second best all over the park.
