It really is a big game this weekend. The FA have appointed experienced Premier League referee Andre Marriner to take charge of the games against Luton on Saturday. Hopefully a decent referee for once. Have to say have always thought that Andre is a decent referee in the top league

Marriner began refereeing in 1992, by chance when he was asked to cover for a referee who did not turn up for a local match,[2] and progressed via the Birmingham Amateur Football League and the Southern Football League to become a Football League assistant referee in 2000.[1]
He was appointed to the Football League list of referees in 2003, and he was given his first Premier League appointment on 13 November 2004, a 4–0 home win by Charlton Athleticover Norwich City.[3]
Lucky omen?
I don't suppose there is a single one of us that hasn't sworn in frustration at the apparent incompetence of this or that decision. 'Twas ever thus.
But we are in an age where every decision is reviewed and replayed from every angle in the court of TV punditry and the criticism and abuse emanates from the top level of managers downwards.
On top of that we now have the court of social media.
Brian Clough once said to John Motson " the way you people treat referees is criminal"
I don't suppose we will ever return to the days of accepting the ref's decisions, right or wrong, and moving on - that ship has sailed.
But I wish TV would take a more responsible lead in supporting refs and not dwelling on every decision in show trial fashion.
Some hope!
