Why do some seem convinced there are there only two possibilities? Either ESI are genuine, rich and we’ll be in the Prem within 5 years or they’re chancers with no money, they won’t/can’t buy the The Valley and training ground.
The truth will most likely be somewhere in between. They might even learn from their mistakes.
Too many people think in black & white, it's either brilliant or a disaster. There's no in between. It's just that we weren't subjected to everyone's neuroses before social media.
Previously if there were people you didn't want to listen to, you swerved them.
It will be interesting to see (if we ever do) what the terms of this “contractual obligation” to acquire the stadium and training ground freehold are. What are the consequences if ESI decide they don’t want to throw money at a League One team because Southall promised his investors the Premier League was within reach?
This is the key early indicator of intentions and level of commitment for me.
Buy the ground and training ground as outlined is the plan and they have my good faith. Come up with any spin or waffle not too then I'll feel we have been bullshitted.
Also sensible investment in summer on the playing side will be a key sign of course but the first point is fundamental.
Sorry if already posted but what is the estimated deadline of the "within 6 months contractual obligation to buy the assets"...end of June end of July?
It seems pretty obvious to me that the idea that Roland Duchatelet somehow acquires the club again in the event ESI fold is pie-in-the-sky. He spent a couple of years getting shot of the responsibility of funding the football club. If ESI can't sustain the running costs in the event of relegation, they will need to look to cut their losses and find another owner willing to fund the operation although it's hard to see what prevents them simply walking away and the club being put at serious risk of a winding-up order.
If ESI really don't have decent money behind them (every indication thus far is that they haven't), then the prospect of funding a multi-million pound losing season in League One will not be attractive and may not even be possible. We should remember that the club should make an operating profit for the first time in a very long time his year back in the Championship. That profit won't be huge but it allows ESI to run the club for now without deep pockets. It's also only possible because we have enjoyed better gates at home, more TV defeats and have the lowest budget in the division. If they don't acquire the assets (Valley and Sparrows Lane), a lot of supporters, certainly those who renewed on news of the takeover, may well feel conned and decide not to renew irrespective of which division we are in. Without a sizeable increase in the operating budget in the Championship it's impossible to contemplate a serious promotion bid - the historical stats on this speak for themselves.
Agree, that’s a potential scenario, but nobody will want to buy a League One team without the assets of value (ground and training ground) as well. That means if ESI want to walk away in the event that we are relegated then an incoming owner would have to negotiate a deal with them for the club and with Roland for the freehold of the ground and training ground.
Try to excuse their failure to address the obvious deficiencies in the squad in January. Spend fuck all and wing it. Totally avoidable relegation. They are skint in terms of financing a football club. Frying pan fire.
Ok, who would you have signed in January? How much would you have paid them? If more than our current structure, how would you have seat with the possible unrest in the squad? How do you know that new signings would gel and hit the ground running?
In fairness those are pretty ridiculous questions, he isn’t a paid scout or coach or squad harmony therapist for Charlton Athletic.
Yep Bowyer and Gallen surely won’t have been happy with that window .
I think LB was making that point when he said the Boro chairman wasn't happy with where they were & went out & bought some decent players in the window. (or something along those lines)
The most avoidable relegation even in our history. So far ESI have shown nothing other than a reluctance or inability to spend any money. We’re not down yet but the slide over the last four months has been quite shocking. Halting it now will be very hard.
I think that the January transfer window spoke huge volumes about ESI ,it was like playing for time after winning the suppporters trust . We needed a minimum of 3 proven quality players in either from the Cream of league1 or from a Championship side to strengthen us and yes that would cost the club money but it would have been more likely to keep us up in this division . I think it is a really tough ask for us to stay up now and if we do go down then the few decent players we have will obviously go(free) and probably others like Doughty etc could well get snatched up by decent Championship sides so it will be a massive squad rebuild. I havnt seen enough evidence from ESI that they will commit to building a League 1 title winning side or promotion contending side and sadly I think quite a number of fans who have returned this season with hope will begin to fall away. Will LB stay if we go down? ESI's top priority back in January was to strenghthen the squad to stay up;I dont believe they did this in my opinion and I'm not persuaded that this summer will be any different if we go down.

We also have to rely on the selling club to agree to the transfer
Want to check that people realise this has to happen?
Do they also realise that clubs wont sell their players unless they can buy someone themselves, else they risk throwing their own seasons away all for a bit more useless cash
You know the sort of thing we used to moan about, like when Roland sold Grant without a backup
Southall obviously thought it would be better to risk relegation than get big wages stuck on our account sheet when we go back to a league one budget. Fact is, he might be right. I'd rather the club was sustainable long term. But that does send a clear message: if ESI are not willing to fund a few Championship wages in league one, they are not willing to fund losses.
Where he misunderstands is that League One is not an easy proposition and also massively damages everything else he's trying to grow: attendances, advertising, commercial opportunities.
He also underestimates how a lot of people will feel about him and his January window should we indeed go back to playing the likes of Exeter. For him, it will be a very long, long walk back.
I mean seriously there’s a million and one better places to “invest” than in a football club with the current ridiculously high cost of success now . Charlatan Athletic a perfect place to blag stuff .
@Henry Irving or anyone else connected with the Fans forum events, when is the next one and when is Southall next due to attend one?
I think serious questions need to be asked about their plans going forward. Are they here for the long haul, are they still planing to buy the ground within the 6 month period, what kind of budget will we have in league one, who exactly has bought Dinamo Bucharest etc.

Do you think Southall will tell the fans forum the truth? Been no need for his B@llocks from the start.
Their manager will have to have a change of opinion about him in order to do so because, at the moment, he can't get a game for them
He won’t even have to play and he could still score against us with how shit we are at defending . I said in the match thread that next week could see football history as both teams lose in the same match .
Does anyone else have the sense of deja-vue? For Jimenez/Slater substitute Southall/Amis. For Kevin Cash substitute Tahnoon Nimer. The new guys (as were the old) are chancers who think they can make a quick buck without spending any of their own money and getting a backer who could pull out at any time like Cash did. Any money going into the club is paying for their flash cars parked outside The Valley on matchdays. Does anyone really believe they’re going to buy the freeholds in the summer?
