Darren Pratley returns to the team for today’s game against Middlesbrough.
The influential midfielder has been out with a back injury and last played at the start of February.
Ben Purrington and Jonny Williams also return to the starting lineup with Alfie Doughty and Aiden McGeady moved to the bench and Erhun Oztumer not included in the matchday squad.
It means the Addicks may line up in a 3-5-2 formation or in a 4-diamond-2.
If it is a 3-5-2 then Deji Oshilaja, Pratley and Jason Pearce would make up the back three. Adam Matthews and Ben Purrington would operate as wing backs with Josh Cullen and George Lapslie playing behind Jonny Williams. Lyle Taylor and Andre Green will likely start as the front two in either formation with Dillon Phillips starting in goal.
If playing a 4-diamond-2 then Matthews, Oshilaja, Pearce and Purrington would be the back four with Pratley holding in midfield and Cullen and Lapslie either side of the diamond and Williams behind Taylor and Green.
Ben Amos, Macauley Bonne, Matt Smith, Tomer Hemed and David Davis join Doughty and McGeady on the bench.
6 pointer would like to have seen the bite of Solly and after we conceded 4 last week thought it may have been the perfect time to bring him back and give Matthews a rest
Subs: Ben Amos, Macauley Bonne, Matt Smith, Tomer Hemed, David Davis join Doughty, McGeady.
The bench is strong ...... there's some 'game changers' there: plenty of experience and ability, plus a couple with pace and quick feet if we need pace on the counter.

Matthews has just had 7 days rest .... should be sufficient for a footballer in his prime!
If Solly isn't making the matchday 18, then there is good reason. Ask Bowyer - he'll know why.
No natural defenders on bench, Solly must be injured. Aneke is surely done with us now.
I suggested this a few weeks ago that his knee has gone again which is why we haven't seen hin recently, but surely if that was the case someone at the club would have just said that by now, still havent seen him in any of the recent pictures or videos of the players training tho

Picture of him involved in the circle here which was 5 days ago.
You must be watching a different team then. Nothing in midfield apart from Williams. Total goals between the 4 of them is 4 I think. Pp said lots of energy......great. But no creativity.
About the best we could’ve hoped for in the circumstances. A glaring potential accident waiting to happen at the heart if the defence but Pearce and Deji will fight for the team, at the very least, and a Pearce may relish the physical battle with Gestede, a player who has caused us a lot of trouble down the years.
Would’ve liked to see Aneke on the bench. He’s blown hot and cold but offers something different if plan a doesn’t work.

Everything is always either brilliant or sh*t ain't it? Obviously we aren't the greatest team in the world but I think most Charlton fans will be happy to see Williams and Pratley starting at the very least.

If you have a squad of larger than 18 players, it is inevitable that some won’t make the match day squad. It doesn’t mean they wil never play a part in the future.

Its certainly the best team that Bowyer could be playing
Just hope to god that Pratley is protecting the defence rather than being part of it - Play players to their strengths instead of trying to be smart!!
Glad they can only bring three players on... Hopefully one of them wont be George Saville what with his Millwall connections
Subs: Pears, Spence, Saville, Morrison, Nmecha, Fletcher, Assombalonga

Seems to me Bowyer is trying to go back to basics: compact hardworking team full of running, who'll fight for each other.
Joking aside this is our biggest game since Wembley, loosing isint an option.

What midfield would you have picked?
