3 Sixteen Again The Buzzcocks ?
  • Though it has to be said that few song lyrics have the simple, yet devastating poetic lyricism that takes you back to a point of time where thousands were unified by a simple message, in harmony with one collective thought like a multi-consciousness gestalt

Simon Jordan is a wanker, is a wanker.
Simon Jordan is a wanker, is a wanker.
    To rival that;
oh, oh Roland, ooo aa  I wanna know why you’re such a cnut.
  • Quicksand by David Bowie.
  • Real real gone
I got hit by a bow and arrow
Got me down to the very marrow
    And I'm real, real gone

    Real real gone
I can't stand up by myself
Don't you know I need your help
    And I'm real, real gone

    Some people say
You can make it on your own
Oh you can make it if you try
    I know better now
    You can't stand up alone
    Oh baby that is why
    I'm real, real gone

I can't stand up by myself
Don't you know I need your help
    You're a friend of mine
    And I'm real, real gone

And Sam Cooke is on the radio
And the night is filled with space
And your fingertips touch my face
    You're a friend of mine
    And I'm real, real gone
    I'm real gone

Oh Lord I got hit by a bow and arrow
Got me down to the very marrow
    You're a friend of mine
    And I'm real, real gone
    And I'm real, real gone
    I'm real gone

    Wilson Pickett said:
    "In the midnight hour,
That's when my love comes tumbling down"
    Solomon Burke said:
"If you need me, why don't you call me"
    James Brown said:
"When you're tired of what you got, try me"
    Gene Chandler said:
"There's a rainbow in my soul"
  • 3 Sixteen Again The Buzzcocks ?
    Spot on all three!
  • So many on here I could agree with but 'Its to late' by Carole King has to be the saddest song ever written.
For me, The Drugs Don’t Work is the saddest. If I’d written that about dad, there’s no way I’d be able to sing it in front of an audience!
  • It's hard to keep from crying,
After all that we've been through.

Now that it's all over, now that you and I are free,
Now there's nothing left except the bit of property.
Started off with nothing, started off just you and me,
Now that it's all over you can keep the property.

And all the little gifts we thought we'd throw away,
The useless souvenirs bought on a holiday.
We put them on a shelf, now they're collecting dust.
We never needed them, but they outlasted us.

All that rugby puts hairs on your chest
What chance do stand against a tie and a crest.
  • You may not agree with his politics, and his singing is an acquired taste, but Billy Bragg writes some bloody good lyrics. Personal favourite is probably "Must I Paint You A Picture", which starts off
    "It's bad timing and me:
We find a lot of things out this way.
    And there's you
a little black cloud in a dress.
The temptation to take the precious things we have apart to see how they work
must be resisted for they never fit together again."
Although as a football fan I've always been tickled by the bit in "Greetings to the New Brunette" that goes
"Sometimes when we're as close as this,
it's like we are in a dream.
How can you lie there and think of England
when you don't even know who's in the team?"

  • I think that Kris Kristofferson has written many, many songs with brilliant lyrics.
Sunday morning coming down and Loving her was easier than anything I’ll ever do being two of many wonderful examples.

    Kris Kristofferson.
Wasn't he once married to Rita Ritacoolidge?
And he appeared with Bob Bobdylan in the film Pat Patgarrett and Billy the Billykid  ;)
  • "You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you"

    Agree about "May you never"

"Born for a purpose" Dr Alimentado

    "Forever Young" Dylan

Hal David was the genius, Bert just wrote some nice tunes.
For an extra point; who sang backing vocals on this?

    It’s about lyrics though.
