This is just so sad. Seen the Stranglers on numerous occasions and what a keyboard wizard Dave Greenfield was. Another victim of this horrendous virus. RIP DG.
Had a long chat with him late last year as we stood watching a punk band he was friends with in a small audience in Bedford Esquires. A very down to earth musical genius and a top bloke who didn't let fame get to him. RIP Dave.
Am very sorry to learn of this. The Stranglers have a large and varied body of work and Greenfield's keyboards were central to it. I much enjoyed his playing - especially on the Hammond organ. I shall listen tonight to his eerie synthesisers on The Raven. R.I.P.
First 'punk' album I bought was Rattus. Seen The Stranglers so many times and have tickets for UEA later this year. RIP Dave Greenfield. No more heroes anymore.
Gutted...the original Stranglers were probably my favourite ever band, Hugh Cornwell said today that Daves Keyboards were what set them apart, I think that really nails it.
I was planning to travel to Valencia with a couple of mates for the 4ever Valencia festival, which the Stranglers were headlining. No concert, and now much worse, no Dave. Played their albums constantly as a teen, and still do - Dreamtime is one I always go back to, but Dave made their music stand out from beginning to end. RIP Dave. Fly high.

RIP
Tremendous musician who elevated the Stranglers sound beyond the punky/new wave template into something special.

Quite gutted about this.
RIP Dave.
I hope he’s on a beach looking at a peach somewhere
