I met him, way back in 1975. We were in a train restaurant car, I was a student and, as it turned out, he had been in a TV spot for McVities biscuits- the company that was sponsoring me on my biz studies degree. I remember he was so easy to talk with yet had some very sharp perspectives on life. That encounter taught me the value of talking to strangers on trains, and of course I enjoyed saying "I've met him" as his TV career took off. Felt sad when I heard the news on the radio. RIP.
