I'm so glad that she lived long enough to experience the recent VE commemorations, not least as people in her village sang 'We'll Meet Again' outside so that she would hear it. About four years ago, she wrote to my pupils and me, thanking us for a Battle of Britain project we had worked on - a signed photo from her and her letter are up on display in the school corridor. Rest in peace, Dame Vera.
A wonderful life, happy marriage, loving family, forces sweetheart. Had the pleasure of being introduced to her about 15 years ago at the Battle of Britain Memorial Day down at Chapel Le Ferne. They’re playing ‘We’ll meet again’ on Radio London as I type. It’s brought a tear to my eye. I’m a soppy old sausage ...
Such sad news. I'm so glad she lived to see the 75th anniversary of VE Day celebrations. My late Dad, who served in the army from 1942 to 1945, used to absolutely adore her. I hope she gives him one more rendition of "we'll meet again" if they meet up in the great beyond. RIP Dame Vera. What a life!
Brought a tear to my eye hearing this sad news.Brings back memories of many of my family who have passed away. She was from a bye gone era. A wonderful lady who provided comfort to so many at the time of so much hardship. She was a symbol of hope.RIP

There is a line 'the valley will bloom again'.
Proper choked me up.
She was a Burma veteran like my dad.
