Toby Stevenson released

  • Potentially playing the second half against Spurs today for Watford

Unless its a different Stevenson as his Dad has retweeted the Watford tweet announcing their two teams
Really surprised that Watford (with their parachute payments) would be interested in a player not good enough for us last season!

He's only 20, he's not going to be playing regularly for them

Stevenson had a wand left foot but not very mobile at all, from what little I saw of him, surprised if Watford are interested.

Bit like Davison, released by Peterborough, goes to Enfield... Gets snapped up by Charlton

Its bizarre the route some youth careers can turn out

Players normally go down and prove themselves at a lower level before going up though.

He came on in the 88th minute incidentally, so got a few minutes against Son and Dele!

It's not every young defender who scores a hat trick on his debut!

Neat and tidy defender, could sometimes pick a pass too.
Just felt he lacked a bit of bite and aggression.

Need to be a bit more 'Tom Lockyer', Toby!

    He is like him
    Gone

Harry After must be one of the best examples

Or even Jamie Vardy - released by Sheffield Wednesday at the age of 16, he was still playing for Stockbridge Park Street at 23. He then played in the Northern Premier League for Halifax followed by Fleetwood in the Conference and didn't sign for Leicester (when they were in the Championship) 'til he was 25.

Wonder whether, when he was working in a factory and playing for Stockbridge, he really believed that he would become a Premier League winner, Golden Boot winner and England international!!!!

    Good luck to the lad.
  • Knowing our Under 23s he will play for a season then get let go !

Good - your pathetic mob against the croydon lot at Wembley still grates - wish the pair of the clubs nothing but bad fortune.
  • Pleased for Toby but quite surprised.

I was a bit surprised we let him go in June to be honest, at least we should have kept him until the end of the season

Surprised they didn't say from Udinese!
  • Continues to impress @ Watford

Is on the bench for their League game against Derby County tonight

Good luck to him. I think you probably meant to say Rooney County?

Baffled how a player we even released before the final 9 games of last season is good enough for a newly relegated PL side stuffed with parachute money.

He always had a really good touch for a defender. A bit of class can go a long way, even if he didn't have what we were looking for at the time

In Bowyer we trust. Hope he is right as LB is a problem  for us. Maybe he would not sign and so was released.
Toby's post on Instagram said how he was gutted to leave Charlton, so it was the club's decision

Scored a hat trick in the micky mouse cup. A couple of strikes that would put a striker to shame.
