In my mind the Frankie Valli one was a great, but on listening again it sounded duller and slower than I remembered (perhaps it's better when pissed up at pub singalongs). Surf Mesa was another kettle of fish; a complete bore-o-rama from the softly spoken dirge catalogue. A clear win for the man with the Charlton blog, but a song of this quality deserves to be remade properly - nothing major, perhaps just another Pilooski re-edit.
Sorry, @LargeAddick but is this really up for discussion? It feels like a loaded question, but I’m not sure why it’s being asked. Has someone inexplicably said to you that they think the second one is superior or something?
I don’t have a problem with the Surf Mesa one, but it isn’t even really a proper cover - it’s just the chorus repeated over and over in a kind of chilled out way - which is fine if you want to make a bit of easy listening lounge music to get stoned to, but I can’t seriously imagine there is anyone in the world claiming that it’s superior to the older version. And I’m not even a big fan of the Frankie Valli song!

What do you expect from a bloke that doesn't rate the Beatles. Final proof that @LargeAddick should never be let lose on the decks.

FWIW I prefer the Andy William's version.
Well the Andy Williams version isn’t an option so I’ll put you down for the Surf Mesa version.
For what it’s worth I like the Surf Mesa version but prefer the Frankie Valli one.
