  • The fact so many freaked over 7 minutes added points to a fact we all know... Bowyer needs some coaching on how to finish.
Why didn’t he keep a sub back for the 90+ minute too? We never ever looked to waste time.

......drawing with Wigan and them not winning their last game is our last chance. Leeds is a total lost cause. No longer in our hands in reality. The last 2 teams I would want to be playing are free scoring Wigan and Leeds. Joke.
  • Matthews got turned inside out the last 7 mins and got beat for the goal. Cullen probably worst game I have seen him play

This season has been one kick in the bollocks after another. Very disappointing to concede in injury time / late on again. Still we have to hope and there is 2 games left.
  • Simply we've lost the ability to win and manage a game. If we don't go down it will be a miracle, which if we some how stay up we'll be doing a Norwich next year. Not forgetting they missed a penalty............

More than ever Bowyer had instructed to play from the back, seemed to be mostly via Pearce which is like asking Maradona to go in goal, Naby should have started if that was the plan.

It's going to be a long long week.

Basic human psychology dictates that at 0-1 in an important match when confidence is low that the team will sit deeper as the game wears on. The subs weren’t the main reason for that, it was the circumstances.

If we were 2-0 up, as we should’ve been, it would have been different. 1 goal per game is not enough to win matches regularly.
  • It's one thing bringing on a defender in the final couple of  minutes, but Sarr came on in the 84th minute, that was THIRTEEN minutes before the final whistle. All one way traffic in that period as we had completely lost the initiative
I think Sarr came on to give us some more height in defending their long throws. I thought it was a good idea at the time anyway.

Bonne did enough today and against Brentford to win both games. He did well being in position for two tap ins, great save for the second but that’s not what cost us the game.

I can’t wrap my head around bringing Field off for Morgan at all. I have no idea what Bowyer was thinking. It’s hard to blame Taylor for relegation when we were a few minutes away from surviving.

I think we’re down. 49 is the number for safety and we’re not beating Wigan or Leeds.

After a great start since the break, we haven't collected enough points to lift us out of the relegation fight. Razor thin margins have not gone our way. We'll have to limp to safety now if we are to stay up. It's still doable, but it won't be easy and is not totally in our own hands (feet?).
Although there's been times when we haven't helped ourselves, missing good chances and conceding a string of penalties, we've been fairly sound as a team unit.

But every team needs to get some breaks .... the lucky deflected goal, the ricochet in the box that falls at the feet of our unmarked striker, the dodgy penalty - they just don't seem to come our way at the moment.

Where's the rub of the green when we need it most?

We had the rub of the green in the first half of the season (Brentford and Leeds). And Phillips saved a penalty today. Imagine if that had gone in; we probably would have lost because we can't chase a game.

  • On balance and now I have calmed down, disappointed but not surprised. A 2-1 was probably a fair result in my eyes but considering the pen it could have been far worse.

Still smallest budget, off field bullsoap and losing your best striker mean for me were still above where we should be.
  • Don't know about Bowyer picking the players up after this, can they pick him up?
That is a brutal blow. We aren't down, but the problems remain.

Every season three clubs aren't good enough to stay up. Our squad was probably the weakest throughout the season. Bowyer said fourth bottom or higher was his goal.

To stay out of the bottom three we need to gain more points and have two games left. Is it likely, no. Is it possible, yes.

Do we still trust Bowyer? I think I trust him, but the players have shown over 44 games that they aren't really good enough for this division.

Lot's been said about the substitutions already, but those three subs at 77 minutes felt in hindsight like something out of the current "non-competitive" kids football where big squads get rotated just to give everyone a run about. Should've been out of sight before that with McGeady hitting the post and Camp making a great save at point blank but it just feels like we got to 20 minutes before the end and thought sod it, one will have to do then.

Sure Bowyer will believe he wasn't being too defensive because he brought on Morgan who's been criticised for his defensive work. So frustrating that in both this game and the Brentford game our goal has come from link-up play between Williams and Doughty and in both games both have been hooked.

Some irony that both of those players were kept on longer than usual meaning we probably won't see them on Saturday and we only have one point to show for it.

We had 3 decent efforts in the 2nd half. One we scored, one hit the post, one was well saved.

After the subs in the 77th minute, it was all Birmingham

We were good for 22 minutes in the match
  • I think that Luton will beat Hull and possibly Blackburn too.

Ironically, our best hope is that Stoke beat Brentford meaning that Leeds win promotion just before their last game.

If we can pull off a shock at Leeds, Huddersfield have two tough games against West Bromwich Albion and Millwall. It's not over yet.

I don't necessarily believe it will happen but it's not beyond the reach of this league's random nature.

Despite what some are saying, this team are anything but bottlers. Someone might just grab the bull by the horns and be a hero.
And then someone from the other team will grab the horns back and score late on.

Shoot me down for this if you want but Stoke will 100% not beat Brentford.

There are some things not so random about this league at the moment; one is us not being able to score more than one goal (which is going to fuck us in the next two games) and another is Brentford being miles better than a lot of teams they play including Stoke who are also shite.

Apologies for the language mods but I’m very fucking angry.

Without doubt, this lot are the biggest bunch of bottlers in the history of football.
Although this one is also "special"
Sorry mate but don’t start digging people out for their views, especially in the midst of frustration at a goal which could relegate us.

How anyone can say we haven’t bottled it at times this season is beyond me.
How the fuck have we "bottled it"? Please, tell me. Who didn't put in the required level of effort today? Who shirked challenges?

The simple fact is our squad just isn't good enough or strong enough for this league, not since we lost our two best players. If we stay up it will be a miracle. It was always going to be a miracle.

You can't say the players are shit on the one hand and then expect them not to make genuine mistakes. You can point at the manager, the substitutions, the referees, anything you like. But our squad is piss weak for this league and ultimately that's the real problem.

Bottling it for me isn’t just about putting the effort in. I never said challenges were shirked. We make so many mistakes. Go back and look at all the goals we have conceded in the last 15 minutes of games. They are just so so soft.

I’m in agreement with the squad of course. Our early form exceeded our expectations and the bar was set too high. The quality in the squad showing now.
  • That it all blame Bowyer...........Please its not that clear cut.

From the begining of this season Bowyer has been given nothing or very little to help him.

200,000 for Bonne THATS WHAT HE HAS BEEN GIVEN and afew quid to help a few loans.

He has had his back against the wall the whole season.

When Bowyer goes we will be moaning,

All week he has the players he does know best, but because we are in such a mess as a club its him that gets the blame.

    NOT ON.

I get where you are coming from but if it’s him to blame he deserves the criticism and what you say above doesn’t make him immune to it.
  • Gutted tonight - shit or bust now Saturday, 3 teams on 45 points if you assume Wigan deduction.

Still reckon we’re gonna just about scrape it

It was Pratley who replace Field. Morgan replaced Williams
  • Said this on the post match thread last week and it’s happened again. It’s cost us the 3 points once more.

I love Bonne for his effort but how many times have we found ourself saying ‘he should have scored’ after a game? Too many for a professional striker in the Championship

It's not his fucking fault. He scored one & the keeper saved the 2nd.

    Blame anyone blame Bowyer.
He’s a striker, he’s supposed to score. If he misses a chance from 2 yards out it’s his fault.
But isnt it the job of the opposition Goalkeeper to stop him?

If the roles are reversed and its Hogan v Phillips then we'd all be saying that Phillips has to try and save it

Not blaming Bonne at all, he was effectively a non-league striker last season & is now being asked to lead the line in the Championship in a relegation threatened side who don’t create many chances.

Exactly - a development player who should have been played on occasion as sub striker in the last 20 minutes until he was ready to step up a level next season.  Unfortunately none of our strikers are available or able to strike.  Except the one that went on strike.  Tosser Taylor.  Break a leg lovey.

Barnsley are gone. If we beat Wigan they can't catch us. Luton or Hull will drop points or both if they draw so a win against Wigan would almost certainly keep us up. Sadly, I can't see it. Even if we start well and take the lead, it will end up backs to the wall holding on to what we have!

Chris Wilder effectively said the fact that Championship managers were bottlers helped Sheffield United get promotion and Bowyer has proven his point this season. I don't enjoy saying it but it is plain to see.

We started the season with a league 1 budget and guess where we:re going to end up. Hemed zero goals this season and the starting midfield zero goals this season - we have been poor all season let's face it - Gallagher prob a bigger miss than Taylor but how often have have we won by more than 1 goal this season?

We haven't been poor all season ? I know Charlton fans will hate Taylor but he is a mega loss, plus Gallagher who could play for 97 minutes. Even Leko who blew hot and cold is a loss.

Bowyer has had terrible problems off the pitch and injuries galore on the pitch but he really doesn't have to make 5 subs every match which allows the other team to bombard our goalmouth.
  • Gutting but no change. Beat Wigan we stay up, providing Barnsley do no better than draw tomorrow. Even had we won tonight, lose to Wigan Saturday we were in the brown stuff. Mission Wigan, and if the mcgeady that played tonight turns up we have got a chance.
  • I'm 100% behind Bowyer still but he still deserves criticism. This just keeps happening but we never seem to learn from it. Partly Bonne has to score from two yards out which he can't do much about, but it came at a time of one of our best spells of the game when we were getting forward and having a few chances and we kill that spark.

Most infuriating thing to see in football is a team set up defensively and timewasting, then that same incredibly defensive set up and line up suddenly have to push forward for a goal.
