I've limited knowledge of his work, but his courage in the face of his illness, including his dealings with children with cancer, is absolutely inspiring.
There's a lot on Twitter showing how well he was regarded.

Don't think I knew the guy before but just watched his fabulous performance in 'Get on Up' about James Brown on Netflix.
