Good to see another Charlton Academy graduate coming in second as well.
  • Highlights from the Barnet game on Saturday

Aaron Henry makes the pass from just in front of the defence for the second goal @ 0.52 / 0.53

Live Stream of Wealdstone vs Torquay; Henry (22) and Claydon (19) playing if anyone is bored

  • Seems to be starting and playing most 90mins. Hoping this period will toughen him up ready for pre season.

    Excellent young player.

Remember Jackson saying at a Q&A previously that the next player from the academy who could be the next big talent to come through that he likes was Aaron Henry.

Playing against men in non-league with something riding on it each week, surrounded by players who have had to work their socks off just to get to that level - not implying youngsters like Henry haven’t, but it’s different for a young player coming in on loan when they have men who might only ever get to that level - all for an 18 year old is a big part of his development.

Hopefully he really learns a lot in this time and comes back in pre-season with the goal of forcing himself into Jackson’s plans.

Mad to think he is 18. Seems to have been around quite a while already. How long is his contract?  Would be superb if he really stepped up next season. Wouldn't count as a squad place and could mean we spend money elsewhere.  Good luck Aaron.

Thread title gives that part away

Completely agree though, if he kicks on it would be fantastic and is a ball playing midfielder which is what we need.

Would be thinking of getting that extension sorted in the summer, more so if he looks to be pushing on, but either way he’ll be 19 this year and we need to secure him for another couple of years longer.

I imagine he's been told to really knuckle down there, and come back as a possible first team option in the summer.

    Doh!
  • Extend his contract and try to get him a league 2 loan next season. I don't think he's going to be ready to compete for a place in our team next year, and after playing competitively for half a season it'll be a step back if he's then going back to playing U23 games and the Pizza cup.

Great to see he’s regularly starting for them and standing out - often not the case with these type of loans.

Great to hear this glowing appraisal of this great talent of ours. I hope to see him make our first team if not next season than certainly 2023/24.
  • I would brink game back and give him a few games alongside Dobson and Fraser. We have a few nothing games against Shrewsbury, Lincoln and Cambridge plus a couple against dog shit like morecombe and Wimbledon. Blood him in pointless games to see if he can play a part next season. Makes sense to play him over lee who won't (hopefully) be here next year

    Completely disagree to be honest.

Let him finish the season playing 90 minutes each week in men’s football with something riding on it each and every game.

Let him learn how others at that level have their livelihoods on the line because of it.

Let him develop an understanding of battling against men bigger and more experienced than he is. What does he do to overcome that? Is his technical ability enough on its own? I doubt it, he’ll need to find other ways.

Let him enjoy his football and develop his confidence playing at a competitive level that he’s clearly proving he’s capable at.

And then when it’s all done, let him work hard in the close-season, reflecting on what he’s learned and bulking up a bit from hard work too.

Then, he can come back and look to kick on. He’s only 18. This loan will do him the world of good.

Wealdstone manager:“But technically he’s so gifted. Every time you get a set-piece in the final third you feel like you’ve got a chance of scoring, he’s that good. He puts it on the money every time".

Stick Henry in our 1st team now  ...... okay, I know we can't this season, but seiously, we've been crying out for a dead ball specialist around the box.
How many free kicks do we ever score direct from.

PS: Hey, Albie - there's a young fella after your squad place.

Why can't we this season? Thought you could recall at any time from non league? Or am I wrong?

I think you're right but I agree with Sage, let him continue learning at Wealdstone and then get him involved in our pre-season.

We could do, he'll have a couple of good 20 minute sub appearances, score a scrappy header then get sold to the Chelsea excessive player farm, or Stoke

Henry had a lot of hype around him two or three years back and I was honestly concerned that he was going backwards after things went quiet for a little while. Fantastic to hear he is making such an impact in men’s football with his first loan.

Think that at this point we have to assess him in pre-season to see if he’s good enough to be that fifth/sixth option for the midfield three. If he’s good enough, he’s old enough.

& if he’s not quite there yet, hopefully we can get him a local League Two loan at Orient/Gillingham for the first half of the season.

It is a point I repeatedly make about the development and introduction of young players. It is uneven and inconsistent (with the possible exception of Joe Gomez), but it is wise not to rush to judgement one way or the other.
I think Aaron Henry is on a bit of an upswing, but were he to be introduced seriously, like Albie Morgan, there will still be some less than wonderful patches.
We now have the ideal opportunity to give some game time to young players, I feel certain that the improving Bakrin, or the honest Barker will have some involvement in the squad for Rotherham.
  • Am I right in saying that the non league season finished a few weeks before the football league? Best if both worlds, give him minutes once wealdstones season finishes

So is he in our matchday squad  (I know he doesn't count in the squad limit as under 21) or will we be sending him out on loan?
On loan to Chelsea I reckon.😎
