David Baldwin steps down as EFL CEO

https://www.efl.com/news/2020/october/efl-statement-chief-executive-officer/

This bit of the statement did make me laugh

Today's announcement is not linked to 'Project Big Picture' and the decision was taken prior to details of the proposals being made public over the weekend.

Yeah right like anyone is going to believe that

Comments

  • Parry will be announcing a replacement from "the big 6"
  • Baldwin has stepped down at EFL because Sandgaard has asked him to be CEO at Charlton.

    FACT!

    Nailed on.

Many a true word spoken in jest 😉
  • More likely to be linked to the pig's ear his organisation has made of its obligations to the clubs it purports to support....if that is the correct word to use.

Numerous accusations made in the direction of Preston by members of late and unwanted negative publicity may have taken its toll on the CEO who has now decided to reconsider his position.

Hmmm. Deserting a sinking ship comes to mind.
  • Looks like they are shuffling the EFL board to get the majority vote on this.

Seriously though, this will ruin football if this is allowed to happen.
  • I can sense a complete carve up coming.
  • Whatever happened to the Torys promise of a fans based review of football? I think this is the driver, they want it carved up before it begins.
  • I hate football at the moment.

  • The English Football League has appointed experienced football administrator Trevor Birch as its new chief executive.

The 62-year-old, who became director of football operations at Tottenham Hotspur in September, will begin his new role on 1 January 2021.

He succeeds David Baldwin, who resigned in October after just four months in the role.

Baldwin will formally step down from the role on 31 December.

Spurs said their finance and operations director Matthew Collecott will oversee football operations through to the end of the season after Birch's departure.

Birch has served as chief executive of Chelsea, Everton, Sheffield United, Leeds United and Derby County and was also chairman of Swansea City for 18 months before moving to Spurs earlier this year.

A former youth player at Liverpool, Birch played professionally for Shrewsbury Town and Chester before becoming a chartered accountant.

does that coincide with Farnell's involvement at Swansea. If so then Farnell to be new EFL Director of Fucking Up Football Clubs?

Was Chairman @ Swansea from 18th March 2019 until September this year

Farnell was potentially at Swansea in February 2019; @PragueAddick would probably be able to confirm

    Who'd have thunk it?

  • A former footballer who retrained as an accountant, has acted as an administrator to Pompey when they went under in 2012 and then has loads of experience as CEO or Chairman at various clubs sounds like a pretty decent choice to me
  • That's quite a lot of posts in a fairly short time.
Was he head hunted each time?  Or did he 'leave by mutual consent/consider other opportunities/spend more time with his family' ?
As football club CEO his main responsibility is making money for the business - what was his record like?
With all those PL contacts is he a stalking horse for the PL's masterplan?

Maybe with all of his experience he's considered the best person for the job ?

Jobs? They should be grateful their existence is even tolerated.
