Is Ian a common forename in Holland?
  • Never heard of the lad until today so we’ll see what he brings. Hope he doesn’t shine too bright or else the blue fuckers will ship him off somewhere else in January.

" ........ has some physical/1v1 defending questions to answer, that's what the loan is for".

Chelsea have sent him here to toughen up.

    A Dutchman.......called Ian  ??

Nah, not having that. Must have misspelt it, should be Jan.

  • Great to have got this done, however, after the Conor fiasco
last year, and the season long loan that suddenly disappeared
when Chelsea recalled, only to send to Swansea, i am afraid
the words Chelsea and Loan somehow don't sit true with me.
So watch this space, and lets see where we are come January.

If he's half as good as da silva, he'll do nicely. Would prefer not to do business with Chelsea tbf, but needs must!
  • Welcome, young man.

Methinks you'll play a big part in our new look squad.

Sounds like an Alfie replacement to me, playing further forward LM

If he is anything like the last left back we had on loan from Chelsea then I’ll be more than happy.

He may even revive a certain tingle 😂
  • I wouldn’t mind betting we rarely see Maatsen as a flat back four full back.

It's hard to imagine, unless Bowyer adopts a Robinson style 4-2-3-1 with 2 defensive midfielders giving the full backs license to attack

It's important that the whole team remembers to pass to the Dutchie on the left hand side.
Bowyer got into trouble doing that as a teenager

Here's Chelsea OS take on the Ian Maatsen loan:

Ian Maatsen has today completed a loan move to Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

It will be a first taste of regular senior football for the 18-year-old defender, who joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in his native Netherlands in the summer of 2018. Since then, he has demonstrated his versatility as a left-back, wing-back, centre-back or central midfielder, impressing both with his attacking intent and defensive solidity.

In September 2019, aged 17, the Dutchman made his senior debut for the club in our 7-1 Carabao Cup thumping of Grimsby Town, playing the final 24 minutes as a substitute.

A European Championship winner at the Under-19 age group with the Netherlands last year, Maatsen signed a new long-term contract in March and now crosses the capital to the Valley. Charlton have picked up four points from their opening four games since relegation to League One and take on Wigan Athletic at home this weekend.

OMG people are we going to end up with a half decent team?

I may need to send all those plastic sheets back.
