Interestingly, some people that I worked with have just published a book called “Football’s Black Pioneers”. I did mention to them about Benjamin Odeji when we last met as I was aware they were still in the throes of finishing the book. I’ve just ordered a copy from Amazon which should arrive tomorrow.
I often walk past the grave of Walter Tull. Tull was one of the first Black professional footballers and also one of the first non white officers commissioned into the British army. A pioneer of his time, tragically killed in action in 1918.
