Maybe we won't play Pratley OR Watson! Maybe we'll set up to cause the opposition problems rather than purely stop them, give the ball to Millar and inshallah
There was enough talk on here before the season started saying that Pratley would be more of a defender as well
Thats something that has happened and probably will happen again, just hope its only if we dont have Inniss or Oshilaja
No harm or complaints at all in adding to and improving the squad, but definitely don't think he'll be getting in our first choice XI.
Nor do I, and this is why I don't think getting him improves our squad. Not to doubt his ability, but I believe he would be 4/5th choice to play in the center of our current midfield.
Feels like a replacement for Levitt in terms of him being an energetic midfielder who can sit and pass the ball around. I really don't know much about him so it's hard to say what role he'll play but it sounds like he was doing really well at Swindon. He looks like he's 8 years old though
Just a reminder, this thread is all about the chatter around speculation of signings and departures. Once it happens, like the Smith announcement or Wiredu confirming his departure, it would be much more helpful to take the discussion of those into separate defined threads. Cheers
I've never seen or heard of this Smith lad, but surely Lapslie could've done that job?
Age was the issue there. Lapslie is a senior player according to the cap. We would be paying *up to £1700 a week for Lapslie according to the cap, for all we know this is free?
I kind of make Bowyer right on the CB situation. Once again that Cap makes that position hard. Can we really afford 5 CB’s?
I know you can say the same about our midfield and signing Smith, and to an extent I do think that’s a little strange. But our back line, when they are fit, are better balanced than our midfield.
I think it’s a gamble from Bowyer, and one that could backfire should Famewo and Inniss both break down again. It’s a tough spot.
Losing my shit on his one. Yes people can cover, but they and the team are better off for them playing in their own fecking position!!
There's only one excuse to play a player out of position and it's that the strength of the team is not compromised by them not being in their primary position and that there is no one better to play in that position.
Smyth at RWB and Matthews at LB are examples of where Bowyer has got this wrong.
Gunter however has steadily improved at RCB, helped by a currently in form Oshilaja and neither Pearce or Pratley playing alongside him. Matthews is more than an adequate replacement at RB. What we have currently is apparently better than what we can afford to get from elsewhere.

'Our loan situation is that we’ve got a lot of loans, so we can’t loan another one. Even then there are no right-sided ones. There are a couple of kids we could’ve brought in for cover but you’re bringing them in for the sake of it. They are not as good as what we’ve got.
“Akin is coming back and it would be silly for us to bring someone in who is not as good as what we’ve got already. It would be a waste of time.'
Can you not apply that logic to the signing of another young, center midfielder on loan?
It would be great to see more games from a midfielder like the one at the Valley v Oxford.
Shinnie produced 2 moments that won us the game. The excellent bit of play to control/play Washington through for the 1st and a free kick goal for the second.

Its not just about playing those who can cover - If the only Centre-Backs available are worse than Pratley there, why bother for the sake of it?

Although in terms of those already here wont be surprised if Shinnie joins us on a permanent basis

We will soon put a stop to that.
Disappointing to hear his battery doesn't run out at 60mins.
