This is more up my street, and, yes I can play them all. You really have to swing the bass drum on these breaks. You'd think the Funky Drummer break would be the most difficult with the relentless 16th notes on the hi-hat, but the Melvin Sparks break is a tough one, with that bass drum pattern.
Any of you guys ever heard of Trevor Morais? Now he really was exceptional. Actually was lined up to be The Beatles drummer but in the end it was thought that he was a bit too showbiz/showy…..so Ringo got the nod instead. The rest is history. As a side note, he is/was one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.
Bonham was a musician as well as a drummer if that makes sense. He does not simply lay down a rhythm track as it were, but integrates with the other musicians, especially live when things are not set in stone, with feel and sensitivity. Not pyrotechnic, but played with appropriate commitment to the nature of the specific piece or song. Keith Moon is not rated highly enough these days, a great drummer.
I love the drums. Love listening to the drums in a great tune. But by Christ, I find the "drum solo" the most over-indulgent pile of crap ever, no matter who is doing it.
Yes Carl Palmer is one to be reckoned with. Is ‘Whiplash’ really that good? I was looking forward to it, but it turned out to be a riff on the tough Sergeant with new recruits trope.

I'm sure we done this thread a few weeks ago.
My favourite drummers to play with are those on three or four piece kits.

It’s a great film that happens to be about drumming!
