2-0 to the kiwis after the first day of racing, in light shifty winds.
Just before the start of the first race the Brits had problems with the electric motor powering the foils, more or less gifting the all-important start to Team NZ who led the whole race and won by 41 seconds.
The second race was closer with the lead changing multiple times but with the kiwis winning by 27 seconds.
There are thousands of kiwis there to support their team, including my daughter and partner at the end of their holiday round Greek islands and Italy. Alright for some.
3-0 kiwis after the Brits were penalised 75 metres for a manoeuvre in the start box which resulted in a near collision. The second race was postponed due to fickle winds.
The second race yesterday could have gone either way.
Not a heck of a lot of interest in the Americas Cup in NZ. What’s the point. The regatta should have been in Auckland of course but, as usual, money talks.

Yep, unlike last time there's indeed very little interest.
Even if ETNZ defend this time, there’s not enough time to get Auckland ready for the next proposed cycle in 2 years time. Arguably the cup has outgrown holding it in NZ anyway.
I suspect that the current Emirates boat designers have it over the Ineos designers .. the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron was founded in 1871, so they have a LOT of seafaring experience and are the most successful outfit in Americas Cup history
Must be boring to watch live, as how can you tell who is in the lead ?
even on the TV is a hard watch
My daughter and her partner are over there watching, with thousands of other kiwis, in the fan zone where they watch the boats live of course, but follow their progress too on a big screen.
my daughter opted out of todays race and went shopping. Says it all.
Must be like watching Charlton play Manchester City.

The New York Yacht Club defended the Americas Cup 25 times and first won the Cup in 1851.

Especially the 5-1 win at Maine Road with Jensen's 30 yarder.

My daughter went with a friend after they won free tickets to watch it up close on a boat. She said it was the worst sporting spectacle ever ( and bear in mind I took her to the Valley earlier this year). The boat was cold and the sea was choppy, but there was no way to judge what was going on, apart from watching it inside on a telly. I doubt it'll be back in Barcelona again, but I won't be wasting a day watching it.
Great day. Don't know if they did anything to the boat on the day off, but interesting that Brittania's best day has been with a choppier sea state. No mistakes helped as well.
Bit of a waste of money for Ineos, all this research and investment, and it looks like a bit of a washout, still at least Ratcliffe isn't wasting a ton of money on any other failing sporting teams.

Why? Genuine question as my knowledge around sail sport is minimal (I know the basic differences, but why is foil a bad thing)?
