Players are always going to be better when they sign for other clubs.

God forbid if Adelakun | Vokes etc. score even just once in a season, especially if thats against us

I thought maybe Sam meant Konate. But he has already signed for Liverpool so maybe not.
Yes I did, for some reason my phone changed it haha.

I know the players I already been signed up by other clubs, I'm saying they were better off trying to sign those instead of Varane.

Time will tell but I just don't think he's as good as the press are making out, some are painting him as United's VVD already.

Koulibaly from Napoli would have also been a better choice IMO

Yeah I'm not sure Varane is anywhere near as good as people are making him out to be. He's played alongside Sergio Ramos pretty much his entire Real Madrid career, and other than the UCL matches and the bigger teams in La Liga, which is by and large a slow paced league anyway, he hasn't been tested all that much.

They'd have been better off trying to get Kimpembe, Upamecano, Kouyate or Kounde if they wanted a decent French centre back
I think he'll be a really.good signing, and they've basically got Sancho and Varane for the same.price quoted for just Sancho last year.

Surprisingly decent business from a club who have usually been a bit of a joke in the transfer market for about 10 years.

Will be even better if they get £80m-odd for Lingard and Pogba and spend it on Neves and a proper DM in the Kante/Ndidi type mould.

Don't think they'll finish above City or Chelsea, though.

He's the Hayden Mullins and Darren Purse of the Premier League

Gets linked to an English club every summer but nothing ever happens

Man Utd set to sign Varane for £34m... Arsenal signing Ben White for £50m...

Surely has to be partly down to the Home Grown rule (not to mention Varane only has a year left) for that price difference?
Varane is older, had a year left on his contract, United know Real are skint, and don't have much competition as no one else will offer him the wages United have.

Not saying he'll be a better or worse signing than White, but there were a few factors why he is apparently cheaper.

his price probably dropped like a stone after his indifferent (to be generous to him) Euro performances .. White didn't appear so his price was unaffected  :)

Toby Alderweireld to Al-Duhail SC in Qatar. That one was always on the cards  🤔

Now we know why we haven't seen Watson.

To be fair to Ipswich, they’re spending the money they saved on released/sold players. While there has been an increase in spend, it’s nowhere near what people are imagining

Not really. What is the total money they've brought in from player sales vs the money they've spent?

They are spending big transfer fees and big wages.

I think their wage bill will be huge. Almost all their signings will be on decent wages.

They sold Dozzell to QPR for over £1m and have moved on all of their high earners, leaving the squad extremely small. They’ve hoovered up most of League One’s best free agents, only spending fees on Fraser, Edmundson and Harper.

The money saved on first-team departures like Judge, Chambers, Bishop, Ward, Sears, Skuse, Edwards, and Cornell can bridge the wages for Pigott, Fraser, Harper, etc.

Yes, they’ve spent a lot of money, but their expenditure isn’t as much as people assume it is.

They will get a fee, probably a significant fee, for Downes as well.

Yeah, that will be a significant sum of money for whoever takes the plunge there.

Sometimes you have to applaud a club who has done some outstanding business. I can’t exactly remember, but I imagine other fans were crying we was “buying the league” during the summer of 2011.

    That's a little surprising, he's a good goalkeeper.

Is he though? I seem to remember him being littered with mistakes when he was at Leeds. Don’t think their fans were too sad to see him go and he’s not played for Burnley.

At this level he is a very good goalkeeper. Though interestingly, it wasn’t a position i thought Wednesday needed filling. I am struggling to work out how they’ve solved their issues of not being able to pay their players.
