Squad Numbers

So what are we thinking?

Morgan has been wearing 10 throughout pre-season, I can see him keeping that going into this season. Would be huge for him, but it’s a big season for him too. He needs to step up and think he will.

Will be interesting to see the numbers of the younger players too, those like Clayden and Elerewe could tell us a lot about their involvement this season.

I think the 1 to 11 is sorted, with further signings being other squad numbers.

    6 loans Henry?

Is Morgan the only senior to change numbers?

    I think it's significant all the u23s are 30+.
  • @Henry Irving I think you may have suggested one too many loans as I’d assume Bridge will be a loan and Akin is on loan too
  • Jacob Roddy hasn't been at an academy for 2 years, signs for us because his Dad is a director and gets a place in the first team squad within a few weeks

I don't think he did badly over pre-season but seems a bit weird

Not if Akin is signed on a perm deal as Gallen suggested could happen

It certainly does look like nepotism for the outside although it hasn't been confirm they are father and son.

But just having a shirt number doesn't mean you're in the first team squad and he was with Southampton's academy so must be of a decent standard.
  • Once upon a time Peter Varney's son was on CAFC books - no, not Luke.
But like Roddy (if he is related) the club never put that info out. Leigh Hales they did

Wasn't lex on the books before his old man was in charge of anything?
  • Genuinely don't think Jacob Roddy and Ged are necessarily related. There's nothing online that really suggests it? And it's probably the sort of thing that may have emerged at a previous club or something

They haven't ever been in the same place at the same time.  Jacob hasn't been at a pro club as an adult.

Really? I thought he looked miles off being ready to be anywhere near the first team.

Not sure if Jed Roddy is his Dad/uncle/whatever, he shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team because he isn’t good enough regardless of his family tree.

There was no potential conflict of interest with Leigh Hales though, as his father had no role at the club

Having been at several of the pre season games it is obvious that Roddy is for the future. However, he did play well  at both full back positions. Useful for the subs bench.

  • Have we announced who's captain? Surely Stockley imo

I'll be surprised if it isnt Washington - He wore the armband a lot in pre-season
  • Washington shouldn't be an automatic starter so I'd be surprised if it's him

They definitely are - I have contacts at the school he went to.
  • Captain will be either Washington or Inniss. A lot probably depends on fitness for Inniss.

If F-Caskey was fit, it would have been him.
  • I'd have said Inniss in a flash if I backed him to be fit the whole time

Washington starting is about as automatic as anyone else out there at the moment.

Other candidates… maybe Gunter, or Dobson.
