Catchy tunes

https://youtu.be/rPA_IGM9mBU

Do you ever hear a tune you’ve not heard before but which is difficult to get out of your head - by a group you’ve never heard of.  Such a tune is Yes Sir, I want to boogie by Baccara.  A girl duo easy on the eye.

I had "In One Ear" by Cage The Elephant as a rather ironic earworm. Took me a little while to find out what it was.

One of them died last week, and I think she was in her 70's! Perhaps they like their women a bit older in Blackheath.

Age 69 actually according to Wikipedia.  Not bad looking in the 1970s don’t you agree?  You might be right about Blackheath tastes (I haven’t lived there since 1962)

I would argue that the catchiest of all songs is No More I Love Yous.

Just try and go "dooby-dooby doop doop doop" without someone else going "Aaah".

went to a club in Manchester near Piccadilly Gardens after a Charlton game in North West
They alternated between DJ and a live band throughout the night.

The band actually played this live.

errr @Blackheathen MUST have heard of Baccara as he states their name .. my earworm .. the intro to Beat It .. by he whose name cannot be uttered (Jackson M) .. in fact it's thunder guitar by either Eddie Van Halen or Steve Lukather (Toto) under the direction of the brilliant Quincy Jones  B)

For some reason I am able to divorce the genius from the man with regards to MJ. Off the Wall still remains one of my favourite albums and gets played pretty regularly.

I'm not sure if it's apocryphal, but wasn't the story that EVH got paid a vast sum of money to come up with (and play) the guitar solo in Beat It.......and he just bowled into the studio and it was all done and dusted in about 30 mins?

Even worse now with on demand and streaming services and Sky in different rooms and smart tvs all over the house and tablets. There’s no escape. Catchy tune thread ? We’re talking brainwashing techniques that the Cold War combatants could only dream about. I even read recently parents in the US were raising an issue about their kids speaking in a polite English accent after watching it.

Remember being at the bar in a Vegas casino in ‘99 and there was this drunk bloke practically asleep in the seat next to me. A Van Halen song came on the TVs and he stood up on his chair, screamed out ‘I fucking love you Eddie’ then slumped back down  on the bar again. He was asked to leave a few minutes later.

  • I remember when I first heard Hero by Family of the Year it stuck in my head.  As a non singer the lilting melody soon turned into a whiny mess in my head, but still it refused to leave.  :/
