Team for Sunderland this weekend...

  • Washington has to play - he will drop into a 5 man midfield when defending and we know he runs his nuts off

My only suggestion is that, if well/fit, Lee should be one of the first names on the team sheet, if not *the* first name.

We need to get back go basics now, with no silly hopeful formations pretending that it might 'click' soon.

No room for 2 wingers who are defensively naive and playing bit part roles when attacking.

JJ knows we need to try something different as what we have attempted has not worked. Hopefully that can be the same as what Adkins brought to us last season.
This sums up my feelings. No way can be continue to play 2 wingers who help either the full backs or the midfield.

              CM

    Deji Lavelle Famewo Purrington

    Gilbey Dobson Arter Leko

           Washington Davison

Subs: Henderson, Pearce, Souare, Clare, CBT, Lee, Stockley
I think I'd go something like this as well, 4-4-2 and back to basics. Gilbey at RM should help provide a bit of defensive support down that side rather than an out and out winger.
  •                    Mac
    Gunter Lavelle Famewo Purrington
        Gilbey  Dobson Arter
                   Lee
           Washington   Davison

If Lee not fit I would replace that position with Gilbey and bring Clair into the vacated position. I feel we need three defensive midfielders at the moment. The team lacks any width, but needs must in our position. I would ask the front three to give everything they have and plan that they all get replaced on about 75 mins.

Leko, Stockley and CBT to replace and fingers crossed we have not had any injuries.

The last two times Jackson picked the team for a proper first team games he played a diamond.

With this group of players getting the balance between too open and too negative is the key.  Really lack players that can go both ways :open_mouth:   but we need to stop losing, fast.
    This was the team

                       Amos
    Gunter  Famewo   Pearce   Maatsen
                       JFC
            Morgan         Millar
                    Shinnie
            Stockley      Washington

6 of that side are available to play on Saturday
So you'd probably saying using that the team would likely be:

                                Mac

    Gunter     Famewo        Lavelle      Purrington

                             Dobson (maybe)

             Morgan                               Clare (Arter?)

                                  Gilbey

                  Stockley                  Leko

Don't forget that team was also 2-0 down after 30 minutes against an awful Bristol Rovers team.
  • Adkins said post Accrington that Lee was back in training and is very likely to be fit for Saturday didn't he?
  • Henderson and McGillivray in goal….
  • Arter's a doubt.

Long-term absentees Ryan Inniss (thigh) and Jake Forster-Caskey (ACL) remain sidelined, while Harry Arter (hamstring) will be assessed ahead of the trip to Wearside.

Funny how there are always leaks when the manager is on thin ice.

Lyle wouldn't get into this team ?

    He was only 10 !

Funny how after a certain person was called out, they never happened again.

For some reason I ended up reading this to the tune of the "Badger Badger" song* while wondering whether it was another one of those "post completely out of character to indicate you've been kidnapped" things.
*only needs one more Gunter, followed by Matthews Matthews" to fit the pattern perfectly.

I agree 5-3-2 is the way to go, though I'd have Stockley in. Also, given the 3 CB's should cover the 'cut-inside' threat, I'd bring Matthews back.
