I must say. I do love a run out. ESP when Warne is commentating and the camera goes on smiling smith and lubashane (sp) and then they feck up. Very little joy to take from this so I’m going to enjoy this one.
  • It says something that when we finally get a wicket, it's a run-out when Root is bowling

Aussies deciding that they are going to have to help us get them out.

Liked the way Harris decides that he isnt the one going to be run out.....virtually sprints to get past Warner to get himself in.

It says everything about our wicket taking capabilities.

Still, always good to see the eminently punchable Warner get himself out.

To me Buttler looks shot . Keeping is untidy , dropped catches and batting hesitant. Wonder what’s happening there ?

Drop him for Foakes is the logical answer.
Knowing our selection policy it will probably be Bairstow.

  • Nice little stand by Stokes & Woakes before tea. Time to get Foakes, Mokes & Pokes into the side  Jokes......
    Fixed  ;)

Home sick? Just had another child, so being away and locked down the other side of the world might be taking its toll.

Buttler was doubtful to tour originally wasn’t he?

Could be - forgot he had a new baby. Today could have been setup for a Buttler counter attack a quick 60 or 70 to give the Aussies something to think about

    What is worse?

they enforced the follow on and we lost by innings and 30 runs or them batting on and us losing by 420 runs ?

On a green track in Brisbane, we leave out Broad and Anderson and play a spinner

On a bouncing track with turn and bounce in Adelaide, we leave out our pace bowler and spinner

diplomacy/face saving might well indicate that he'll come down with covid and miss the rest of the tour.  With a bit of luck the same virus (terrible form and performances) might also do for Pope

I am not disappointed with Buttler so much as the people who keep selecting him to play. He has been a fantastic player for England in the shorter form of the game, but has never been more than rank average in the test side at best.

Surly this should tell them that his considerable talents are not best used in this format and he should be left to concentrate on one day and t20, where he is in my view one of the greatest players we have ever had in this country. The games might be roughly the same but how you play them to get success is completely different. It is understandable that he was given a run in the test team after the last ashes tour when England also got hammered, but to carry on when there is potentially a more suitable replacement is ridiculous.
  • Some grim numbers, both with the bat and ball

  • Feel sorry for Malan and Root.

Feel sorry for Malan and Root.
Malan is the only real positive for me so far.
We seem to have solved our number three position.

    Shame he's 34 not 24.

Malan did quite well on the last Ashes tour too, then lost his place afterwards

What number does he bat and what’s he doing Boxing Day?

Anywhere in the top 5. And he will be in Melbourne - but only watching!

Brave but had he got out I just might have had a few words waiting for him!

He only hit two fours and no other maximums and says that the boundaries weren't just massive but that, after the home side had only achieved 134 last week, they didn't cut the outfield to make his team's task somewhat harder. Which explains why he hit no less than nine 3s!

Get him to take his kit, providing he knows how to not hit a ball that is not hitting the stumps

He's been working with Carl Hooper at the club he plays for and  at the DLCA, until he went for his stint commentating on the Big Bash, with Greg Blewett. They aren't the worst mentors so far as that is concerned!
