I'd like to see him in our squad, not out on loan.
Starting line up. Him and Kelman together would be a great partnership.

Who knows what happens if he gets a chance in preseason games?
I think If Jones had full faith in Kanu we wouldn’t be offering both Godden and Dykes new deals.

Would leave us with 10 forwards next season. Obviously Dixon and Ahadme are easy disregards.

But he’s not getting rid of Kelman, Dykes or Godden (if they sign) he obviously loves TC, clearly wants Mbick enough to say not to cash in on him for 5M and reinvest. That’s already 5 forwards

leaves Kanu Tanto and Leaburn. Tanto will be very difficult to shift after his Stockport stint wages and fee we paid for him. So likelihood that’s already 5/6 ahead of Kanu a good pre season can change a lot but it would take some doing to get himself into contention

I agree with that analysis. But both Godden and Dykes are likely to be short term deals. So an extension with a loan out next year to a decent club and raring to go 27/28. Shouldn't be a difficult sell. Remember he's still young, younger than Leaburn, who imo there are more question marks about.

Front three of TC, Kanu and Leaburn.

Midfield of Fullah, Zak Mitchell and Gough.

Back four of Edwards, Bell, Jones and Ramsey

Called up to the Sierra Leone squad for 2 x friendlies against Liberia on 6th June at 5pm UK time and 9th June at 5pm. The last set of Sierra Leone matches were streamed on Fifa+ I think, no idea if these will be

I'm liking the set-up. Add Holsgrove Graham Iorpenda and Sidebeh, none of whom would break the bank and we're competitive. Fev as cover for five of those slots and Sichense to be eased in. Key is four at the back which means we don't need to spend money on at least three wing backs and no slow, small, ex-Luton midfielders

News in that Luton have offered £750k. Makes a change for a player to go the opposite direction!

Using the Rodney Green manoeuvre (IYKYK) tell Luton there is the possibility of a deal for Daniel (providing there are sell ons) for £1..6 million as long as they take Ahadme as well.

I don’t understand some of our support who believe Daniel won’t ever be a success at Charlton (arguably under some measures he is already a success).
If not being impressed with his trajectory so far doesn’t get to people, then why have an academy at all?
The same goes for a number of others who come through too. We are blessed to have all of them.

I don't know that anyone is saying that, I think for those of us who think he could leave it comes down to his contractual situation meaning he might leave before he has an impact again on the Charlton first team. I agree that he is a success story for the academy, and if we were in League One, we'd be rubbing our hands with glee at the prospect of him coming back from such a successful League Two loan. But us being in the Championship means asking Kanu to make two steps up in one season, which I think a lot of us feel he's not quite ready for.

Sign an extension and loan him to a decent League One side would be my preference. That just may not be feasible depending on what the player wants to do. RC_CAFC said:

He really clicked last year at that level. I'd like to see him take a loan until January in league 1. If he steps up then he'll have serious promise.
Could see Bromley or AFC Wimbledon taking a chance on him.
I think he will have better offers. After the season he’s just had I think teams at the top end of league 1 will be in for him whether it’s loan or permanent
If it is a loan, the best offer for him is the one that develops him the most in a footballing sense. I think a season under Jackson at Wimbledon would make sense for him. Any money made at loaning to lower leagues is so negligible that it is far more important to think what would be beneficial for the player.
I didn’t mean from a financial sense. I think he’d benefit far more playing for a team that’s going to be getting chances to him so he can keep scoring goals. Wimbledon scraped survival this year and will have the lowest budget in the league next season, be very surprised if we sent Kanu there. We will want him getting plenty of chances and scoring goals and that’s what Kanu will want too
Could be wrong, but I don’t think Nathan Jones values strikers scoring goals as much as he does their work rate and press off the ball. He’s said before that he doesn’t care who scores the goals in the team. In that world, Kanu would be better placed going to a Wimbledon than a Leicester next season.

Either way, I think we agree that a league one move next season is the right one for him.
Kanu’s best attributes are his work rate and press though, he doesn’t need a loan to focus on developing those. If that’s all he needed then he’d already be playing for us because he’s probably our best striker at pressing from the front.

He’d be much better off going to a team that’s going to have more of the ball to develop the other areas of his game and get better technically and with his link up play, those are more his weaknesses. A team at the top end of league 1 that’s going to get the ball to him plenty would be ideal

I get that’s it’s nice if our players go to Jackson but Wimbledon is not a good club to send an attacker too, they’ll be in for another very tough season next year
Two other good options could be Leyton Orient (if Wellens stays). He seems to know how to get the best out of strikers even when the team aren’t performing. Or Wycombe with Mike Duff who turned May into the striker he is and got Wycombe playing some good stuff last season.

The main point I’m making is that I think the manager is the most important thing for Kanu.
If we are able to sign him to an extension, I think this is spot on. I think who he plays for, and what system he plays in, will be as important as how he plays. He still needs work on his touch and link up play. Both have improved, but I think both still need work. Wellens plays one up top so I wonder how Kanu would suit him. I believe Duff is 3-5-2 man? From memory, both like to press which is Kanu's best attribute atm (better even than his goalscoring). So it will be interesting to see where Kanu lands if we can get him to agree to a new contract.

Just tell Luton that if they sign Kanu they have to take Ahadme as part of the deal irrespective of how much they offer. That should be non-negotiable.

1.5m for Kanu, or 850K for Kanu and Ahadme.
  • Genuinely feel Kanu has more potential than Kelman. Both are good finishers but off the ball Kanu is more impactful. I suspect that won’t be a popular view. I think if we sell him we’ll regret it in the long run.

Kanu should not be leaving the club, in reality he should be given until Jan to fight for a place. In my expert opinion I have him ahead of Leaburn

He’s not competing with Leaburn though.
Target Men= Leaburn Mbick Ahadme Dykes?
Runners= TC Kanu Dixon Kelman Tanto Godden?

Presuming we stick with 352 which I’ll assume we will considering we’ve offered both Dykes and Godden new deals despite having numerous forwards already

I think we should be extending his contract and then loaning him out again. We'd be crazy to sell a 21 year old striker who's just shown great potential in league two. if Luton are interested enough to want to buy him, tell them they can have him on loan.

I don't think he's ready to compete for a place in the Championship but let's not be hasty and sell him yet.

I certainly hope come the start of the season that Ahadme, Dykes, Dixon and Tanto are all competing for a place elsewhere.

Would still leave 6 strikers for 2 spaces but that's why I would like to see Kanu re-signed but loaned to L1.

I wouldn't be surprised to see TC sold as he has a yr left on his contract and I think will want to move on given some of the (unfair) abuse he gets from some of the crowd.  There were large parts of this season he didn't look happy.

Godden will likely have a squad roll and who knows whether M'Bick will have a big part to play or not.
