  • Shame they have felt the need to bring him back early due to Leaburn injury.

Long term thinking, the best for Kanu is to stay at Southend and play 80+ minutes per game while gaining experience in men’s football. I wonder if he’ll go back again if we make a quality forward signing in January.

    I can't agree:
We are down to two strikers and Tedic is struggling to make an impact.
Kanu will give energy to the forward line and can play central or to the right or left if May goes central. Coming on from the bench initially I would imagine.

Both Campbell's are forwards but do their best work from out wide so the best penalty area players we have are May and Kanu and we don't know about Casey until he plays men's football but just like Daniel is prolific in academy and U21's .
Mbick was only 17 last month so can't see how he is being considered when Kanu was 19 last month.
CBT remains our best player at going past players despite the rubbish spoken by half a dozen on CL.

Yes but NOT long-term best for the club/team. If we don't call him back then we risk worse consequences - say May has a bit of niggle or takes a nasty challenge. With no Kanu, he has to play on and potentially make it worse. We have a LOT of games in quick succession and two outright strikers fit... and one of those is Tedic.

I'm not saying it's ideal and I'm sure recalling him isn't/wasn't part of the original plan but pragmatically it's a numbers game and his personal development has to (temporarily) take a pause. If we get through to Jan and sign cover he'll go back out I'm sure.
  • Scott will have it sorted for a replacement, don't worry guys.

Tedic looked promising when he had his initial cameo roles for us at the start but now the only way I’d believe he is a striker is if he shows us his ASLEF card. Cue he plays today and gets a hat trick…

Hopefully a good opportunity for him and he gets some minutes and impresses.
In Jan we need to return Tedic and accept we only have May as completely reliable, Leaburn will pick up injuries at his size/age whilst he fully develops and Aneke seemingly will never be fit for long.
Kanu, Casey and M'bick all exciting prospects but we don't know enough about any of them yet.
A new loanee and a lowball bid for JCH with his 6months contract left would be a decent plan in my opinion.
  • Lucky for us that Sierra Leone haven’t qualified for AFCON or that could be another striker gone.

I hope Charlton fans will curb their expectations of Kanu's impact on the team, and do not get on his back if he does not bang goals in in many games .
He is a young inexperienced footballer and the fans must not put to much pressure on him.
That is why it would have been better for him to spend  more time away from Charlton.

    Spot on.
  • New contract hopefully

That's great news.  Has improved a lot (and seems a bit bigger too).  Would actually like to see him start instead of Ladapo.

  • Great stuff !

Onwards & upwards with CAFC, Daniel !
  • Great news, had been getting a bit twitchy about his contract situation.
  • Happy for him. He's finding ways to make an impact whilst still being young and raw. He's definitely made improvements in his all around play. I was really hoping he'd get to spend a decent amount of time out on loan playing regularly this season. Obviously that kind of happened and also he's played a good amount for us as well.

Still a ways to go for him, put absolutely one we should invest in for the future.
